We thought it would be for benefit of everyone who wants to know about SEO and for benefits of SEO professionals as well.

    --------------
I think this thread belongs to SEO, but if moderators think, it should be somewhere else, you are free to move it
    --------------
We started a Wiki SEO here
    http://www.wikiseo.org/Main_Page

I think this could be a place where SEO professionals can share their information and skill and some webmasters can find out things about real SEO.

Benefits for SEO professionals who will contribute content

We are working in order to make it a nice resource and also we will get it ranked well and this wiki will have good traffic in days to come.

You will get to place free links on this Wiki SEO to your websites. I hope people understand what value a link from such a wiki bring to their website.

Our wiki is new, but it will soon have a nice Page Rank and also will show up in Search Engine Results for many things.

People who will contribute more in start, will be made administrators

    ===================
Please do share your concepts and thoughts

If you think, we are having some fault somewhere, people do point it out, we will change it.

We hope good participation from people on this forum.

At the moment, we are using content from original wikipedia and we are waiting for your participation. The Wiki had a nice response and within few days of launch, it is already getting lot of page views and has more than 300 pages indexed by google
    -----------------

One last thing, this wiki will always remain a no profit venture. It is for benefit of community.

    thanks

By putting nofollow on the contributers links I am not sure if a lot will help you. I might consider it, if I get some good links.

I wasnt sure if it is no follow.
The main aim is to help everyone who contributes by allowing him to place a link on his site.

Am not sure, how to enable links to follow. I will make our programmer check the same.

thanks for telling me about that.:)

Your external links are still marked with the nofollow tag.
    <a href="http://www.wmd.org/democracynews/may1102sup.html" class='external text' title="http://www.wmd.org/democracynews/may1102sup.html" rel="nofollow">Democracy News</a>
    Code (markup):
Do you see where it says rel="nofollow"?

The other thing to consider is spam and disagreements.

Everyone has their opinions and research about aspects of SEO, and it just may happen that a reader will disagree with what the page is currently saying. The reader will then go on to delete the contents and replace it with his/her point of view. Now add in the mix people who don't know much about SEO and you'll have a nice little soup of content that changes regularly. Would that be a useful resource to use? IMVHO, no. And who are the editors to play umpire between two high-profile SEO experts?

The other thing is spam. Just plain old add as many pages and links as possible. Not just spam to get SEO links (if you remove the nofollow), but also spam to get traffic. How will you deal with that?

    Just my 2 cents.

Had this been the case, wikipedia main or wikitravel wouldnt have gone that far. There are people with different opinions in almost every field. So is SEO, there will be two opinions on various topics, but this will also benefit a user and not to just confuse them.

Have you been reading what's going on with the big Wikipedia? People who are politically-oriented have edited Wiki pages to remove "negative" comments and "enhanced" the pages about their favorite political figures.

Just two articles: here and here.

    It does happen :)

I'm just saying that if you have points of contention you might get your hands full with people constantly changing the pages. I'm just pointing it out. I would love to not see it happen, but it's a possibility.

    Good luck with the wiki.

Personally I do not see the benefit for anyone other than yourself as a link bait resource! There are ample forums on the web where people can discuss what they want, and find information about what they want.

I am not being negative, but I really do not see the benefit, or the new angle of it as opposed to an article depository.

For information for everyone who might be intrested. The site has got a Page Rank of 5 in this Google PR update, and there are many other pages with good PR which might help your websites as well.
Am still not sure how to make external links with follow tag, hope to find a solution after checking wiki help documents on same.

Hey Old Welsh Guy - you're not the only one who felt the rep love from this thread ;)

I don't get it. Someone asks for an opinion about whether he/she thinks an idea is good. We reply with some comments about various aspects and we get repped down. So why ask in the first place?

For what it's worth, gdtechind, take a look at The Wicked Ways of WikiWatchers. (I can't believe I'm still helping this guy.)
