How many here think that this time google has made significant modifications in the way they make toolbar pagerank calculations and pagerank updates? The confusion in the webmasters is deliberate by Google I think and Google engineers would be laughing with all the reactions on the webmasters forums. It is more likely that google has made major changes the way everyone sees PageRank. The steps they have taken so as to dilute links selling and other businesses which are based on pagerank. What do other members think?
Google has changed page rank they have reversed it so a 0 is top and 10 is bottom. At least that is what im telling myself .
I was under the impression that although google is devalueing non-relevant links and paid links this will only have an effect on SERP's and not PR. It would be interesting to see if anyone has seen a drop in PR due to paid links being devalued. Of course if google finds sites selling links and reduces their PR then this is different to reducing the PR passed by a particular type of link.
There is no definitive way to say if any PR/SERP change is result of links or anything else. Its all speculations as google never discloses their secrets.
PageRank (PR) is calculated solely on links. If some of the links pointing to a page are devalued or discounted, how can it NOT have an effect on PR?
What google needs to be is consistent with their SERPs. The last few months have been hell for me with my SERPs changing daily good and bad.
or maybe it's google...... I am more or less talking about this long drown out update they are doing. 4 months ago I was doing pretty good in Google... then shit hit the fan when Big Daddy come into the picture
Ask yourself why that's happening to your site and not to a lot of others. The egocentric view that says "my site is jumping up and down in the search rsults so that means that the Google people don't know what they're doing" really won't get you very far... In other words, carefully study what is happening to your site versus other sites as a result of changes Google makes and learn the important lessons about SEO from those observations. That will get you a lot further than the "Google is broken" song.
It's happening to alot of others.. atleast people I have talked to... who have very nice sites. Ex. http://www.cruiselineforums.com Read above... if you have outstanding ranks then good for you. However according to Google my site has nothing to do with Ford Mustangs... because it doesnt list it in the top 200 for Ford Mustang. What am I doing wrong? I don't see anything. I have sites with less content than me ranking higher than me. Ex. http://www.muscle-mustangs.com I can sing and work to my friend. In my opinion Google is broken. Yet I continue to try to figure out why Google ranks sites with less content and activity than me higher than me.. much higher than me.
Exactly. That's my point. The universe around you is broken. There's nothing wrong with you. You're fine. It's all Google's fault.
Google is perfect then. I'm sorry. Everything is fine at Google. The universe around you is perfect as long as things go your way. Please spare me. I gave my opinion and if you don't agree then fine. However google's datacenters have been all messed up these last 3 months. I keep getting different results and I don't know where my site stands one day to another. I find it broken if they rank sites with less content, less activity higher than mine with more activity and more information for people looking for info on Ford Mustangs. Like I said I am looking to figure out why this is the case. If I am doing something wrong then I will find it or you could be so kind as to point it out. However all I do is keep the activity up and keep people posting new content. Yahoo and MSN don't seem to have a problem with ranking me yet Google does. You obviously don't see it my way since Google ranks you where you want so save your Google love speeches for someone else mmkay.
My point was that if you have a link on a PR6 page that is totally unrelated to your website then this link will not help your site as much as a PR6 link from a related site. Therefore the link is devalued (maybe devalued is a confusing term to use in this case). This link would still pass the same PR to your website it just won't help as much in the SERP's.
Exactly as mad4 has said ., you need links from related site , having links from non-related sites will not help you at all to get a good SERP .
