First, hello all, and thanks for having me here on DP. I'm extremely glad I've found this forum, its been great learning and interacting with other webmasters. Now, my question is, where do I start? My site is a little over a month old now, and doesnt seem to be gaining much traffic from search engines. maybe one to two hits a day. I have been actively working on a stumble exchange here, which is extremely benificial, but other than submitting my url to google, yahoo, and msn, haven't messed with SEO at all. I don't have any money to invest in advertising right now, so I'm really interested in how to get better results from google mainly, then yahoo, and msn. Spent some time today adding metatags, and only now starting to learn about keywords. Being a play on words for an already established and promoted site, I'd really like to be able to work my way up and rank higher than them in keywords. I just really dont know where to begin. The site I'm referring to is http://www.rap-it-up.net, now I'm not asking for handholding or someone to do things for me (although I wouldn't turn it down if offered lol) just a few pointers to get started and maybe a few links or points in the right direction. Thanks in advance, Silvano
i would buy the seobook...it is money well spent for beginners. you will find EVERYTHING you need to get started. http://www.seobook.com/buy-now.shtml
I'll keep that in mind for when the site makes enough to afford it, but like I stated, I don't really have any money to invest in this project. Im unemployed right now and can't justify any more expenses. Thanks for the link though, I bookmarked it for future reference.
Then you're going to want to read Chris Beasley's SEO Guide and the Search Engine Optimization FAQ from SitePoint, as well as the "All You Need to Know About SEO" thread I wrote last July here on Digital Point (see my signature, below). Read those two and you won't ever need the SEO Book.
yeah these forums are full of helpful people... read through lots of posts and you'll pick up knowledge you don't find in SEO books
happen to have any links? Also interested in ways to make a drupal based site more seo friendly. Thanks again DP forum goers.
Here is a good advice - Start using DP Search. There are some amazing threads buried. I am almost 2.5 year old here, have read alot but still feels, I have been guilty of missing many great threads. Also don't afraid to go till 5th,6th page during searching. If possible, you can also read SEO Bible by Wiley. There were threads by members "Burta" and "DCT", search for both of them. There is some real good info there.
