I am not sure if it's a tip , because some people can have their browser set to not send the referrer URL, but ...

Can't we easy see when a website have been reviewed by checking the servr logs, and look for referals from dmoz.com ?! i mean , the editors from dmoz , log-in , and check your website from their dmoz account panel ?!

You can only verify that it's been looked at, not accepted or rejected. Sometimes not even that, I hear that Robozilla will give false hits...

Things that can be going on when you get a hit from DMOZ in your server logs:

    • An editor has reviewed the site and has listed it.
    • An editor has reviewed the site and had decided not to list it.
    • An editor has reviewed the site and has decided that it belongs better in another category and moves it to the unreviewed area in that category
    • An editor has reviewed the site, but doesn't feel qualified to list it and has left it for another editor to deal with
    • An editor has seen the URL somewhere and wants to know if the site is listed in the ODP already (part of tyhe process of doing that involves "pinging" the site
    • An automated tool has reviewed the site suggestion for one of a large number of reasons which have to do with filtering out known spammers, removing duplicate submissions, etc.

So hopefully you see that a lot of these reasons don't mean that much. And the most common reason for it is the last one - the automated tools (which are tireless, of course).

So really, server logs aren't a good way to know with any degree of certainty what is happening with a listing review in the ODP.

Some Dmoz editors will visit without leaving a referrer in your logs, by setting their referrer to blank. This makes good sense, because it prevents websites from cloaking junky content just in order to get into Dmoz.
