hi, i am new to this website. I type in google "how to become a dmoz editor" and that's how I found this forum. most of the other sites I found make it seem it is impossible to become a editor except this blog : becoming-a-odp-editor.blogspot.com This guy was accepted october of last year, he seems to made it easily. How hard is it really to become a editor? Or is the blogger correct?
Why would you want to? You should read some of the threads on this forum about the dmoz. Some of the members here are also former editors.
Not to mention the current editors ;-) People who want to become editors for the right reason (because they want to help build the directory) usually succeed - although it may take a few tries until they understand the editing guidelines well enough to satisfy the reviewing editors. The ones who complain it's impossible are typically the webmasters who only want their sites to get listed. Editors are accepted each and every day.
Ditto what plantnut said The best way to find out is to submit an application - go to The Open Directory Project and find a category that interests you that has less than 100 (preferrably less than 50) listings and that you feel you can find more to build it up. Click on "Volunteer to Edit" at the bottom of the page. But before doing that, I recommend reading the guidelines Pay particular attention to the titling and description sections during your reading.
I just was accepted today! After reading what's on the net (+ in this forum), I thought someone in high school sure as hell didn't have a chance! I guess you can't believe everthing you read!
Congratulations Once you are able to access the internal forums - stop in the new editor section and introduce yourself. I hope you enjoy editing.
Thanks. How long do it takes to get into the forum? I can't login into the internal forum Do I report this in the Resource Zone forum?
