Well, check out some other popular fashion sites and steal - umm... BORROW - their layout AD POSITIONS. I don't mean that you steal colors, but you can check out where they are placing ads.

Alternatively you could simply hire some guy to help you out.

Check out Google Channels help stuff - I could write it, but all the same information is there.

I just wanted to add a small tip : ads fonts and sizes should blend with the rest of the content.
I don't know how much CTR +% it gives but it may be efficient.

Yeh, but I also suggest "stealing" what works. Checking what other people do is good for ideas (like checking out the template suggested) - gives a good starting point from where to go forward.

Yeh, font size, color, family (=arial) etc. is good to think about

I've found that I got a better CTR by actually removing some of my ads - my most visited pages now have no ads at all above the crease.

 

Definitely agree with what u said. You can check out my sites to see the best layout and coloring I have used to get the best results.(tested over a 6 months period). I prefered a white back ground webspage as it makes the advertising stand out more. I am now testing on refferal ads to see whether it earns more. Just started yesterday.

Well, after google doing changes to the referral program things have changed... but naturally it's worth testing.

For some sites they can do good, if you tie the referral product to the site content (like... remember when one site owner had "technology & security stuff" and recommended "firefox as the most secure browser" - something like that).

If you take away some ads, then don't forget placing some additional ones to other places. (like in the very bottom of the page if you have a long page) - they can bring some small increase in the $$$

do you really get banned for putting images next to ads?

on one post in this forum, someone reco'd putting pretty chick pix next to adboxes to increase the CTR.

 

Most likely - it's against their TOS the last time I checked.

Heres a little tip to add. I've just started using refferal ads, which I thought only made you money if people signed up for things.
(not the case u get paid for clicks as well) I chose the best paying ads and only images that look interactive. Like millionare dating, world wild life fund, games and dating ads. Ive gone from 0.0 most days to 0.7 most days.
