Yeah, the Google Alerts are dead handy! You can set it up for any google query and set it to email you on a regular basis or when it is updated. I have it set up for backlinks on all of my sites.

Only one alert so far and not so many backlinks on it as is being predicted on the mcdar tool

I'd say this is the update and ranks are in dance mode. They will settle out soon and the truth will be told ;)

I have yet to see any changes whatsoever except fluctuations between zero and the same old pr. All my new sites are steady pr0 when I know they will be getting something.

Am I the only one seeing absolutely nothing happening yet?

I'm working on a site and the PR has been either 0, 1 or 3 over the past 24 hours. The backlinks are in flux as well.

I only noticed because of the attention I had to give the site.

All it proves is that there is flux in the toolbar in my opinion. I'm not stating this as evidence of an update. I don't know if that is the case.

This is kind of like watching a bunch of people go out for dinner and sit in the kitchen talking about their food being cooked.

"Well I see my burger but its not on the oven yet!"
"My fries are cooking but I dont see the ketchup"
"I see the ketchup now but where did my fries go?"
"If they cook my burger too much longer it will be burnt, hope they stop"
"I see a plate but its dirty, hope its not mine"
"They put my fries back in the freezer, they are gone!"
"I dont think the oven is working, but the one next to it looks hot"
"ewwww the cook just picked his nose"

Go back and sit at the table and wait for them to bring you your food.

I was hit last update with that "glitch" where my homepage stayed at PR2 and all pages under it went up to a PR4.

A few BigDaddy DCs are showing a PR4 for the homepage now but I don't think it's our new PR...it can't be. We've gotten 1,500 links since then. I think that new infrastructure is simply displaying the PR the homepage should have gotten last update.

    Only time will tell...

    i'm starving!

    nice thought though aaron.

to set up google alerts for your backlinks. you just use 'link:www.yoursite.com' as the search term for your google alert. Plug that in and set it up to alert you as soon as there is a change. and you're away.

you'll get an email as soon as your backlinks change - from the google data center that gets updated first. This means that if you then go to google.com and do a backlinks search you probably won't get the same results - it'll be behind.

This happened me in December when the backlink update happened. Google.com took a few days to show the updated results. but know that it is happening!

For anyone interested I posted The Truth behind Google PR on my site today. Comments appreciated!

And hopefully this will help alleviate some SEOs chasing the green bar when they could be much more productive. ;)

Also, make sure to choose "web" in the drop-down menu. Other examples are 'site:www.yoursite.com' for changes in the number of indexed pages and 'cache:www.yoursite.com' if you want to monitor how often google updates the cache of your page.

That's a cool idea, using google alerts for these queries. Never thought of that one.

I love that post Aaron. :)

I have an established older site, and have been following these threads closely. If any of you have noticed a decrease in PR on those updated DC's (as did I) I am now seeing *flux* and an increase in PR on the DC's that have updated backlinks.

This shows me that dinner IS still cooking. So I'm going to sit back and hope for a wonderful meal.
