Purchasing of text links

Is it worth purchasing text links to get SERPS?

What I am wondering is that if you purchase a PR6 link and it will add to your own PR.

But once you stop buying it and it is removed off the page, your PR will drop right?

Is it worth it then and what are the advantages?

I know that natural linking is the best but I think all of us knows that it is so difficult to get a one way link.

I used to buy link - but dropped it after google mentioned that they will "punish" site selling or buying link. But of course - they have to see it first. :)

But buying links actually worked quite well.

This is Good till Google not knowing about the link you are getting is paid.
If G caught, than it won't make any loss for your website, but also will not give any help to your website.

IMO buying links can do you good if you do it in moderation. Google won't notice a few links here or there as easily as they'll notice thousands. In addition, I don't think you'll get penalized for buying links, if you did, your competitors would buy links for you. If anything, Google most likely devalues purchased links and punishes the seller. Sellers know what they're doing and have control of who they link too.

If you are going to buy links don't buy from websites that blatantly advertise that they sell links because they'll likely lose PR soon and lose their ability to pass authority.

PR and SERPs are two different things - you can have great SERPs and a shi& PR.

The best and safest thing you can do is follow Google's guidelines and work to make your website user and SE friendly. Anything worth having takes time and organic rankings are no different.

As I can see, the mis-information highway is rolling at full speed in this thread.........

First, Google doesn't penalize sites that buy texts. They only penalize sites that "sell" text links, and all they do is prevent that site from being able to pass on any Pagerank or SERP weight to outbound links. That being said, you could actually "waste" money on buying text links, if the site you purchase them from a site penalized you could be wasting your investment. Remember, the Pagerank you see now is only update every quarter or so, its updated "real-time" behind the scenes. Just because your buying a visible PR6 doesn't mean it's not currently penalized behind the scenes.
