It's a good way to build backlinks. Merely submitting to article directories isn't nearly comprehensive article marketing however (there's blog posts, press releases etc). Also, it's important to be careful with the articles being submitted. They should preferably be unique.

it is one way of building links you can submit your article to different article submission sites you can also used it in blog posting another. But for me the best way of building back link is directory submissions.

You should try viral marketing. Create a video or a blog post that will get people talking.

It's a good way, certainly not the only way. It depends on how much time you want to spend on it. Some people do really poorly at it because they are sloppy with their articles, but it does better with more interesting ones.

By itself, not really. It's more of a supporting player than anything. Just make sure that when you do submit your articles, you include a link back to the original article's page (rather than your site's home page) so the search engines know that your article's page was the original "canonical" source.

Damn you. Damn you to hell for even suggesting such a great way to promote your site. Reminds me of me. :D (By the way, for anyone who was just reading this, that was a compliment.)

Article alone a good backlinks? SEs love checking backlinks from forum postings, directories, blogs, social bookmarking, etc.. but it is considered as backlinks.

There are numerous ways to get backlinks and article marketing is just one of them. The number of backlinks you get and the quality of them will depend on the quality of the article and where you submit them.

If you can write a decent unique article then people will link to it, if its poorly written then noone will be interested. The problem with article marketing is that it is very time consuming and can be expensive. If you can write, then it is obviously easier, but if you hire someone else to do it, then it can be expensive in the long term.

You should broaden your horizons and get backlinks using different methods like iceshards suggests.

Always articles marketing counts in building backlinks
but if done effectively it pays of more.

If you create unique content in form of articles & distribute it to articles directories. It will be fetched by many webmaster automatically display thisarticles on various pages of there site , and you have back link at bottom of every article so lots of links.
