Hello, can any one explain what exactly web2.0 standard is? is there list of standard which need to follow like w3c standard. if possible than provide some resource links thanks
Web 2.0 is marketing spin and there is no "standard". The basic concept is user interactivity.... web v1.0 served up flat data which the user where the user could like it or lump it. Web v2.0 allows them to interact with what is served up be it commenting, voting, adding their own content etc. People have latched onto the marketing spin and now you will hear people talk about the web v2.0 look etc but as with all these things, the web is much more about evolution than revolution and there are many sites that fall somewhere between the two "versions"
That is a very good summary, it sometimes takes me half a page to explain this to some people that web 2.0 is nothing more than a marketing term that people have latched onto for all different things on the net.
This is the definition: http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/oreilly/tim/news/2005/09/30/what-is-web-20.html Oreilly were the people who first used the phrase, to describe what's outlined in the page I linked to. AstarothSolutions is right as well. Even though I know Web 2.0 is pretty much nothing to do with look (in defenition) I still describe my work (when selling on Sitepoint) as Web 2.0 as I know it will draw more customers. In contrast to what I've said above, it's the people that use a language that define what it means, not two men in their office somewhere, maybe Web 2.0 does mean the look now as well, because there are a lot of people who seem to think so.
Thanks for the reply, actually some time what happen is, client ask to design template which follow web2.0 starndard. and they dont know what exactly web 2.0 is. at that time it become hard to explain or understand their requirement. what you people do while this type of case you face.
That's being polite. It's a bullshit buzzword thrown around by people who know NOTHING about web technology - the type of people who think you can get good technical advice in the pages of Forbes. Even it's origins are manure - bunch of self important 'names' in the industry slapped the title on EXISTING WEBSITES made using EXISTING TECHNIQUES. "2.0" RIGHT... How very proactive. (See Poochy the Talking Dog)
Web 2.0 is more of a style classification than a new web definition. It's a buzzword that implies, fancy effects with a simplistic minimal layout. The conception with web 2.0 is lot's of vibrant colours, big typography, heavy usage of the Trebuchet MS font and a nice reflective logo. Web standard markup is also included as well.
More of a jokey comment on the stereotypical British overly-politeness... kinda like, they say when you barge your way through a crowd of Canadians, they will apologise. : ) You should see how Dutch people imitate the British. Plus I haven't seen Astaroth Solutions being rude anywhere yet...
Really? Maybe I should move to Canada, sounds good. Depends which bit of England you're in really. I'm polite and genteel of course...
Sorry, we've just had so many web2.0 threads... not to say that that's bad or anything. If there were mods on this forum, someone would've made a sticky somewhere a few years ago called Web2.0 Doesn't Really Exist and then inside it would be like, This is how you code for Web 2.0, which would be funny. And the graphics geeks could add their pink beta stars...
its alright, actually i dont want to learn web 2.0 but i want to know basic standard here. as some time clients are not aware of it and they asked for standards at that time it is difficult to explain him.
Assuming you are talking about non-technical clients then you should always push the client back to talking in business terms not IT otherwise it is asking for a fall.... go to a mechanics and say you want a new fan belt you may well get a bill and a faulty car back, go to a mechanic and say the car is making a terrible screeching noise and you'll get your car fixed.
The Official Web 2.0 Standard: 1) You Must Have A Gradient Effect In Your Header Graphic 2) Your Logo MUST Have A Reflection 3) Your Site Must Be In A PERMANENT State Of Beta 4) Please Communicate This Beta Status Using A Red Circle / Red Star With Drop Shadow 5) Your Domain Name Must Have An 'R' At The End (so 'mydomain' => 'mydomainR') 6) Use A Big Sans-Serif Font 7) Use AJAX Even If You Don't Need It (You Can Tell Your Clients That AJAX Is THE Web 2.0 Programming Language)
