Domain age or website age?

I believe in sandbox because I ever experienced it myself. Now the question is, what will trigger the sandbox? Domain age or website age? People said sandbox effect is around 6-9 months (I believe it's only around 3 months from my experiences). What are those 6-9 months? 6-9 months after we create a new domain or create the website? If I bought a domain (for example) 1 year ago but I never created anything for that domain, would it be out of sandbox or not?

I'm new to SEO but i'm guessing that google works on the age of the site after it enters the index. Otherwise google will not be able to age the site itself.

Hope this is helpful and if someone could confirm this it would be helpful to us both.

I agree with Lock on that.

From my understanding - In Google's view the site's age is taken from when it first had content that it was able to crawl and index.

google prefer old domain and first preference give to old domain compare to new domain. it would start taking consideration when first crawl and index the page.

 

I think it's the length of time that the site has been indexed on google.

Yes from everything that I have read, it is the first index of a page on the site.

 

from the main sandbox FAQ thread, it says it's the age of the backlinks.
