What's the easiest way to find out, without having to ask, where the servers used by a webhosting company are. Thanks!
Asking them is the best way. I myself use 2 different Datacentres, so that problems at one Datacentre will not affect all the clients at a time
You can Certainly Contact them. Contacting them would be the best Option Since there may be a lot of things for example. Their website may be hosted else where to prevent communication Problem when servers are down. Or They might have Multiple servers. Many factors play a major Part. Cheers!
You can easily deduce this from the command line and or terminal by doing an nslookup of a domain name. From there you will get the IP address which you can then do a whois on. From there, by looking at the SWIP data for the IP, you can generally get a pretty good idea of where a server is located. There are also several tools on the internet that will do something similar to this for you. NetCraft is a good place to get this information from too.
The simplest way is go to hostingmatrix.org, there contains the data center info for most-used VPS and dedicated servers.
i would suggest you do a whois .. to find the name servers .. from there find out where the servers are located ..
It doesn't answer the question. He just wanted to spam. As to the OP, try http://www.dndetails.com or http://www.whois.sc
@Schmarvin. Thats not entirely true. We host from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, but a whois on whois.sc will show Poland as the location, because the owner of the RIPE IP range lives in there. The network itself is in The Netherlands. The best way to find out where a host is located, is to do a traceroute. This can be done at multiple sites online. I recommend google for this.
Thanks guys! I just want servers in a different country than the US, and also Europe, and I don't want to send emails and wait for an answer. And where the main website is, often would be a different server, as pointed out already. Ideally, without asking that is, I could check where the hosted websites are, but I don't know that without asking. So it's a vicious circle. I would ask only before actually signing up, or at least when I have an idea of where the servers are. Does any of the methods above solve my problem? I mean, is there like a website that says where at least many webhosts have their servers? Thanks!
Nothing. I think that it is not a secret at all There are no reasons to lie potential customers about server location
Its still a start though, you get an idea of the IP location, and can trace it. Sometimes the host hides their IP or masks it.
