Scenario: You are just hired in a company and given a website that you need to optimize, what are the factors you need to consider like backlinks, title, keywords, etc...thanks.
I'll bite. Quality of the content Quality of the backlinks Content to code ratio Information Architecture Proper applicaiton of semantic markup Quality of the metadata present ... and so much more
what are the steps...sorry but im still new at this... what are the things that i need to look for in the site beside the things stated above by Dan Schulz, markov, vfconsulting
just focus on visitors, search engines will automatically give you high ranking. Visitors like to see good content
That's not true, computer lover. Search engines just don't give sites a high ranking. They may appear to (especially with new sites) at first, but that's just a "new content" modifier they apply; eventually they'll figure out where the page really belongs. kiddie30, it sounds to me like you've really found yourself in this situation. You might want to consider reading the Search Engine Optimization FAQ over at SitePoint.com - while it does focus on newer sites, it should still contain plenty of information you might find useful for re-evaluating existing sites as well.
Hi kiddie30 Hmm.... How about the Internal linking structure. PR flow. That seems like a good one frenzy25
Site Architecture falls under Information Architecture, just as relevance of the sites can fall under quality of backlinks (since a quality backlink is considered to be one that is on-topic, ranked well (top 1,000) for the key phrase(s) you're after, contains the keywords you're targeting, and has a high PR (PR 4 or higher)). But that's just me.
Thanks for replies...correct me if im wrong here is the list that i made. Age of site Authority links Back Links (Google, Yahoo, MSN) PR Index Pages Keywords (how well they rank on the SE's) Traffic IP of the domain Meta Tags Speed (load of page) ROI Inbound / Outbound links If it uses cloaking, landing pages Is there anything i miss.??? please add..thanks
SitePoint's Search Engine Marketing Kit might have one. I'm not 100% positive since I don't own it though.
I'm a fan of social bookmarking whenever you finish a (fill in content of your site here). At least digg, delicio.us, and StumbleUpon. See what type of stuff people are into and make more of it. Use the k.i.s.s. method. Keep it simple stupid.
