    Hi,

I think that Google's search engine's algorithms dependency on links, which can be manipulated is slowly ending. Not entirely, but definitely fading.

From my experiences on my site, backlinks are no longer as important as they used to be. I just wrote an article in which I hypothesize that Google has moved away from backlinks as the primary way of ranking pages, and is now using its own actual usage database, that it has created from Analytics and Toolbar, in order to determine ranking. In other words, what you need nowadays is traffic not links. You can find my article at:

Google, Google Analytics, and the Changing Face of SEO.

BTW, I think this makes Google's results far superior to what they were before, and much better than other search engines, however it does put new sites at a disadvantage. Google does give new sites how SERP, to test them out, but you can see a big drop, if the test fails. Lots of sites have observed this phenomenon.
