Increasing CTR by writing useless gibberish

It shouldn't really be like this, but I find it is.

If your webpage provides genuinely useful information, people don't click any ads. They start browsing your site.

If you write a load of semi-gibberish nonsense (but not spam), the users attentions wanes, and they start clicking adverts if you place them correctly.

I've a CTR of as much as 40% on utterly useless (info wise) pages that are full of hand written nonsense. Other pages that provide fantastic advice have a CTR of just 1 or 2%. Fair enough I won't attract much respect, but when it comes to making money online, it's all about clicks.

So my tip would be that the less useful information you provide, the higher your CTR will be.

    MAD but true.

Repeat visitors don't click ads anyway.

artificially inflating the ctr like that will obviously mean that people are clicking on the ads to get off of the page, instead of clicking on the ads because they are truly interested in the product being advertised.

your epc will drop like a rock because you are sending google crappy traffic... google calls it "smart pricing".

I dont agree with this. Don't advocate spam to other DP users. There are many noobs on DP who are too desperate to start a MFA site, you are just helping them make a wrong decision.

The content does matter, if you write gibberish stuff, you will also get garbage traffic. Do you know the good old story about mesothelioma blogs? people visited them clicked ads, pubs got $2-$5 per clicks. Everyone was so happy and then ask those pubs now what do they get? 1 cent or 5 cent clicks? why? coz the traffic is gargage.

if you sell garbage to people, you will get the same thing in return. Quality matters.

Thanks for sharing, chris911. I know content is king but my recent experiments showed the exact same thing you've found. I've been a perfectionist and I don't tolerate creating mediocre contents, but I recently started loosening, and saw some good profits.

For people who call such traffic is garbage should seriously enforce their statements with actual numbers. Have you done any research on this? Have you seen any data showing how crap this traffic is?

The original poster is correct but he has overstated his point. I, too, have found that pages that don't totally satisfy your visitors generate the highest CTRs. The content doesn't have to be gibberish, nonsense, or spam. It has to be related to the interests of your visitors with keywords that allow Google to generate ads that also relate, but it doesn't need to give them EVERYTHING they're looking for. You have to leave something out to help create interest in your ads.

Here's an example: Say you have a site that talks about the advantages of having a GPS system in your car. The site could contain well-written, informed, solid information and advice about buying GPS systems -- and provides a list of links to sites that provide the best deals on GPS. Visitors will love the site because it gives them everything they wanted to know, including links to purchase sites. Although a good quality site, visitors will not click ads because they have found everything they needed without having to click on ads. Once a visitor is satisfied, he will not click ads.

Now, let's say there's another similar site with the same good information and advice, but without the links to purchase sites. In this case, CTR is going to be much higher because visitors will want to click on Adsense ads that provide them sources from which to purchase GPS systems. The site gives them what they want, but in a way that generates Adsense revenue, by simply leaving out some information from the content.

Pages on my sites that follow the above principles have consistent CTRs in the 50%-70% range. Pages that don't follow the principles have much lower CTRs.

Writing and publishing gibberish is a short term play. You will probably get organic traffic for awhile but that could taper off and eventually go away as the search engines get smarter. If you want to be around for the long haul i would pursue the quality stuff..

But i am sure there are tons of gibberish millionaires :)

    True
But increasing ctr in such a way is not somewhat appealing-your site along with content can turn gibberish, aint it

and what is its value in the internet world, another junk

Better less ctr and few clicks than termed a bad webmaster making a few extra bucks than an average webmaster-that smartness may not stay for too long- my 2 cents

but the fact that there is nothing there to reward us honest publisher with brilliant content is what piss ppl off the most. Crappy content = $$$, Great content = cents ... doesn't make sense but it is how it work now.

I can see your point here, and it does kind of fly in the face of creating quality content.
