Wrongo. If the pilots AND passengers on that plane were allowed to carry a gun, it would not have happened. The school shooting at Virginia tech wouldn't have been as violent if students were able to carry guns too. So let the people take care of themselves on the subway.
why not carry a gun yourself? are you afraid it'll go off in your holster, or does the 'European Union' prohibit it?
Back in the 1980s riding the subway guaranteed you to be a crime victim. With recession looming the City government is probably getting ready for some hard times.
Aren't pilots supposed to be flying planes not running around and trying to shot at terrorist, and what happens if they miss and shot a civilian by accident, or if they get shot themselves. Who is going to fly and land the plane then. Also do you every civilian having a gun on them when their on the plane. If so how do you stop a mentally sick person from bring a gun on the plane and attempting to hijack it or shooting other people on it. Planes should be a means of transportation not a war zone. Also do you limit the size of guns that can be brought on a plane? Also here is a thought 5 terrorist walk up to the front of the plane with machine guns mow everyone down and attempt to take over the plane, they're going to crash them into building anyways so its not be deal if the civilians on the plane are dead now or later. In the end I would rather have one trained officer on the plane with a gun then 300 some drunk, some tried average joes with no arms training bringing guns on the plane.
I know people who lived in New York City in the late 80s early 90s and the only people who rode the subways at night were criminals. After dark you didn't get on a subway. Giuliani cleaned a lot of that crime up but no one wants to give him credit for that.
The problem on 9/11 was, the FAA told pilots that they should not resist hijackers. The Pilots should have been able to protect themselves, and the property of the airlines, as well as the passengers. What happened on the one plane where the people fought back? They lost their lives, but the plane didn't take anyone else out.
The pilots were told to obey the rules set by FAA. Can't blame them for that. Also another issue was what I heard the doors of the cockpit, if I remembered correctly there was a commission on airline security which strongly recommend a strong door but somehow or other this was not implemented.
Here we go with the "but what about the mentally handicap people" argument again. This has got to be the only substance gun-haters have. If that many people were really that mentally insane, I think they would be starting fights on the plane. Just because you have a gun, doesn't mean it's gonna pop out of your holster and just start shooting people because you're crazy. And I love how when we talk about PEOPLE carrying guns, all of a sudden they are now "drunk average joes", because in your perspective, people are not even intelligent enough to own a gun.. that should be left up to our government right? Because I mean it's not like we should have personal responsibility or anything just trust your government for handouts. How many times have you got on a plane where there's some "drunk redneck" on it talking about 'cleaning his boom stick in Oklahoma'? But now when guns are involved, suddenly a bunch of drunk average joes are going to rush onto the plane and go crazy and start shooting everyone! You really don't trust the American people at all do you?
I think we need to look at how accurate our Cessna Flying Heroes were on 9/11, especially the dude that managed to hit the ground floor of the Pentagon without even touching the grass.
Who says I don't? Maybe I've got a concealed carry permit. I live inthe USA where we still have gun rights. That is a pussy response. I do not live in the EU, and yes, they do prohibit citizens from carrying handguns in the EU and most other socialistic countries.
But I think he skimmed this dandilion (Top Secret Government Image): http://www.universalclass.com/i/images/crn/30768/dandilion.jpg And that's all the proof you're going to get besides this one video (out of all those supposedly confiscated): http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5415578059017835301
I don't understand why having armed police officers can be unsettling for some. I had my 5 year old nephew killed by a polic officer in an accidental shooting, but I still know that the vast majority of police officers are there to serve and protect. I personally see no problem at all with this concept.
I go to POA 42st and WTC everyday so i see them alot...i got my bag searched like every 2 week. Remember last year when they found something like anthrax in UN building? There were more than 30 cop in the WTC station taking note on whoever passed by..i was scared and walk instead..
a while back cops shot a guy 50 times because he thought he was about to shoot him. now just imagine you are in a bus with another 200 people and a police officer with a machine gun. what if he feels uneasy about some one and shoots or gets in a strugle and gun goes off by accident.or falls and the gun go off or whatever. this is new york. subways are very crowded and any accident can result very badly.
My stance is that any individual has the ability to make poor decisions. I would be inclined to say that there would probably be more deaths and criminal activity if they weren't there. It isn't the guns that cause the casualities, it is the dumb acts of people. Police officers are going to make mistakes, but through training and background checks they should be much less likely than the thug with his gun there.
Humans are complex unpredictable dynamic beings, and background check or training will ever be 100% effective in preventing violence.
