I have 200,000 Keywords - Best Way To Sort Them Into Ad Groups?

My campaigns have always been very small keyword-wise, but now I am going to be launching something rather larger with around 200,000 keywords on Adwords.

My question to some of you have launched a larger-scale campaign is: how do I go from the 200,000 keywords I have in my Excel/Notepad file to getting them sorted into Ad Groups?

I've used the Keyword Grouper in Adwords Editor, but don't the keywords already have to exist in ad group in a campaign to be sorted? I'd like to sort all 200,000 at once, if possible.

Make your life easier. Don't use thousands of keywords, because they CAN'T all be targeted. Use only the ones that are HIGHLY relevant to what you are advertising.

I agree with the other dude, but you also want segment. The higher the competition is for a keyword, the more you want an optimized and segmented campaign. There really is no shortcut for that many keywords, otherwise you'd risk very low ctr, and high wasteful click costs.

If your stuck with the idea that 200,000 keywords are 'relevant' than just put minimum bids on them. Do a test for a week....try not to lose the whole bankroll with that huge amount of keywords, and check your CTR's....get rid of the crap and see what converts.....200,000 keywords is very huge to maintain and upkeep so you dont go broke....seriously i believe you should use blackmans advice instead of 200,000 keywords....i mean how many visitors could you possibly need in one day that dont convert?? find the good keywords and dont try to land every web search out their for the subject.....

AJ22, let me save you some money. Download AdWords Editor. It's free. Dump your keywords in there and use the "keyword grouper" tool.

That will do exactly what you need.

 

Yea, I just thought Adwords Editor needed the keywords to be online in an ad group in order to sort. I built it out in Excel then put it in Editor and walla.

you still have to manually separate the 200,000 with editor into respective adgroups and campaigns. good luck.

If possible make it less like 2000 > 200 > 20 keywords

You'll be able to sort them, you'll be able to upload them using the editor, you'll be able to bid whatever you want on them. You will also watch as you get very little impressions and very few clicks. Google doesn't like a ton jammed down their throat at once. Break that list up and test maybe 10,000 at a time. Pick out the good ones, delete the bad ones, add another 10,000...repeat until you've gone through all 200,000.

At least that way you'll give your account a chance of succeeding.

Congratulations on launching your first big project. Exciting, huh...

I've audited and re-strategized accounts with thousands and thousands of keywords for clients and let me give you one piece of advice from my experience. You will save both money and time in the long run if you take the time to do it right the first time, because with that many words you are going to have a REAL mess on your hands if it's not broken up right according to targeted ads.

I agree with the comments written here by the others, and testing in smaller increments, like 1,000 keywords at a time.

One common denominator I've found with clients that take the time to do things right from the start, without trying to rush to make big bucks, is they are more successful in the long run.

that is hilarious, a dictionary being sold could target just about every keyword on the planet - hahaha funny stuff - anyone know exactly how many keywords are even possible - keywords that would make some sense at least?
