I've got an e-book that I want to market this year, and when I advertised it last year, sales were good(I actually earned a profit). The method I used last year was banner advertising. The problem is, the profit wasn't as big as I liked after paying for advertising costs. My question is this: could I make more money by running an Adwords campaign as opposed to banner advertising? I don't like banner advertising sometimes because they rotate your banner, and your views are limited.
i wanted to bump this topic up a bit as it got no replies and I also would like to know about this. normall a banner on a pchelpforum, which is related to my website http://www.softmall.org costs $40 a month. so is it worth it? should i get banner or adwords?
absolutely, experimentation is the best way to see what fits your niche best. In reality I think a good forum will benefit more from selling banners, and most other non community based websites would be adsense, but you need heavy traffic before it becomes worth it.
tesla, you only pay with adsense if they visit your site if i am correct? i havem't tried so it seems you'd get or you'd expect to be getting people who are interested in your product visiting. So i would expect for the ammount you spend you'd see better profit. That being said it depends where you banner is located if it's on a software site or a site related to your product you could make a bigger income best advice. is test it.
thats what a forum is all about, sharing experiences. If I had the finances to test them both I would have, but I dont . so im asking if anyone has already tried this already and if so judging my site, which would be best for me ?
I'm going to try Google Adwords, and here is why: 1. Google Adwords doesn't require a large investment up front like banner Advertising. The banner ad that I ran last year on a PR 6 website cost me $200 per month, and I had to pay it before they put my banner up. With Adwords, I only pay when someone actually clicks on my ad. With banner ads, you pay WHETHER OR NOT anyone clicks on it. 2. Though I earned a profit from advertising on the PR 6 site, I don't like the fact that they ROTATED MY BANNER. Banner rotation is BS, because it limits the number of people who view your banner, and it just allows the webmaster of the site you're advertising on to maximize his or her own profits at your expense. 3. With Ad Words, you can "put your toe in the pool before jumping all the way in." I can start with like $50, and see how I convert with that. If it doesn't work, I can try someone else. With banner advertising, you can't really dip your toe in other than starting with a lower cost banner, but then that may not be as effective. I definitely think I'm going to try Adwords. I found a guide here that some of you may find useful. I bookmarked it so I can read through the entire thing, I've already read half and it has been very useful so far:http://www.wordsinarow.com/google-adwords.html. I think the keywords for this topic might be competitive though.
Keep us updated please, as you go through the process. Personly have been debating weather or not to start paid advertising (no doubt it will help but just how much?) anyways i'd love to hear your resualts! - John
It's nice that you've chosen to go with AdWords although I must say, it's a very tricky game with PPC programs. A piece of advice from me is to choose lots of long tail keywords instead of a few short ones to bid on. Also, don't stop with AdWords. Keep exploring other advertising options like article marketing, hiring forum posters, blog posting, buying reviews on blogs, social bookmarking etc... A really dirty trick for ebook sellers is to create mini-sites reviewing your product and then driving your AdWords traffic to those sites instead of the sales pitch itself. Obviously, you're going to appear as an authority in the niche and tell people how much better their lives would be if they bought the product you're recommending. Nowhere would you reveal that you are, in fact, the author. If you're really serious about getting sales, you should also concentrate on building your affiliate base. This way, you won't have to pay for your traffic anymore; the affs will take care of it. Cheers
I ran campaigns to my site in banners networks (advertising.com, do not recommend them) and on CPC with Google Adwords. from what I learned Adwords is much better if your CPC rates aren't to high. the CPM method is better for branding then selling a specific product. I would recommend to start a small campaign with Google with constant optimization of your ads and key words. search traffic is always better then CPM traffic. good luck anyways :~)
