First off here is the website... http://www.PumpCost.com It's new, about 1.5 months or so For January so far it only has 760 hits which is extremely low for how useful the site is...several people have it bookmarked and it will get about 30-40 uniques a day but I feel it should be getting much more than that. What are some ways to start out with marketing and getting the website out there? I haven't really done any SEO...but I am going to look into that sometime soon this week. I know one thing I am going to do for sure is make a commercial about gas prices / filling up / etc and post it on YouTube with a PumpCost.com logo in the bottom right corner...I did this for a car club website and it maintains the most hits out of all of my sites. If you could just leave some input that would be greatly appreciated...thanks DP! **Is this thread in the right place?
It is a useful site! I Stumbled it for you. Traffic will come with time. I think 760 hits is really good, seeing that it is only 1.5 months old. When you make a video don't just submit it to YouTube. Send it to all of the video sites to increase your traffic.
It is indeed a very useful site, but do SEO as you said you would because I think many people do check pump price. I would get your site popular in forums related to what you have or even put it in your signature on forums you are a member of. The more posts and more popular you are the better, but try not to look like a spammer. Link exchange is always there, and you have have some money in your pockets you can drive traffic to your site.
Yeah I like it too. As for marketing ideas - the design is a bit rough. Maybe try cleaning it up a little and adding a simple 'email this site to a friend' script on the front page? Also, a really cool (though potentially complicated) feature would be letting people choose a start location and a destination (e.g. a road trip) and the site showing them where the cheapest stations on the way are. At the very least its worth trying to get some Google maps intergration. Just out of curiousity, how do you keep it updated? Do you have to do it manually, or is there some online database you're pulling the info from - seems like it would be pretty hard keeping the info current.
All prices and links are updated automatically through a feed. Thanks for the tips guys...but I don't know where to get started with SEO
I would help you with SEO for a copy of that script..LOL..but seriously, nice site! I stumbled it for you as well. very useful!
that's a neat idea for a website. I would go to sites with car enthusiasts. Another thing you could do is create a widget that other sites (like car sites) could put on their site and offer it to them for free.
