How many domains were registered in [Year]?

I've been looking for stats for the total number of domains registered at certain points in the past, but haven't found anything beyond a list for the first 100 domains or the current totals of domains. What I'm looking for is something like the following (the number are just made up):

In 1994 there were 100,000 domains registered.
In 1995 there were 200,000 domains registered.
In 1996 there were 500,000 domains registered.

Does anybody know this - it doesn't need to be complete for all years - just enough to give a general picture .

Maybe you can contact them to give you the year wise breakup.

Thanks aniani - the country specific stats are worth knowing .

It's the number of old domains I'm really interested in - for example if I buy a domain that was registered in 1995, I'd be interested in knowing just how many domains there are that are even older.
