And here I thought you had read the entire thread. I guess I was wrong - did you miss the part where I said I totally agree with everything that sidjf has said? Must be blind too :p

Edited to add link to post

That was 500 posts ago. I thought may be you have changed your mind since your previous post before this was very cryptic. Does this mean that you fully support the removal of pedophile sites and porn doorway pages?

If this is the case, we have 2 DMOZ editors vote for removal and none against, so far.

lol, Even if every editor reading this agreed, your sample size would only be about 10 (or less) out of 7,000-8,000. Not exactly statistically signifigant. ;)

Always interesting to read how some people seem to know exactly how other people and organsisations are thinking and what they are going to do. We used to have people able to predict the future on the local fair.
Unless you are one of the top AOL employees you don't know what they will be doing. Giving facts is OK, keeping on writing about the same speculations without any prove is just silly.

AOL can't take chances with idiots running DMOZ, by what we have seen that is what they have, these porn listings are evidence of this fact!

Many of the top people will be fired and the porn sections will come down, just watch and see!

Darnit anthonycea, you seem to have forgotten to answer my questions again! Man, you keep forgetting and i might start thinking it's because you don't have a good answer - but I'm sure that's not the case.

I'll repost them, just to make sure you know which ones i am referring to. :)

If they did not make money, why would the editors list them

Hell no, AOL has been in big financial trouble since the merger with Time Warner, I would bet Time Warner executives and shareholders will step in soon to put an end to this DMOZ lunacy quickly if you want the truth!

You are a smart man and I am sure you are aware that financial gains are not the only motivation for humans. Love, fear, power, sex and money are all powerful motives with different importance for each individual. While financial rewards can be most important for one person, it can be of no significance for other person who is only interested in sexual gratifications and this is what I explained about 500 posts ago. ;)

Man I wish I would have had DMOZ when I was 13 :(

Wait til news of this thread hits the high schools......

PS: Man I wish I was a DMOZ editor with 100's of porn sites in DMOZ leading to SERP's in Google, I could quit working construction for sure.......

I think there is a reasonable chance, after many years of trying and failing, that the adult galleries will be cleaned up at long last, though not removed entirely. What form cleaning up takes is another question that I would be interested in watching. Thinking positively though, in the circumstances, a clean up would be an excellent result and restore much of the faith I have lost in recent weeks in an organisation I loved being a part of. I left in part because I did not have confidence that on major issues, of which the state of Adult/Adult guidelines was just one, they were not being given the priority I believed they deserved, too much focus on trivia and window dressing such as the monthly report. If this does happen then the major credit will have to go to editors fighting the cause internally. In all honesty if anti-change forces internally were to win the day nothing said in any external forum is going to budge them. But hopefully some of the content of this thread has had an influence on the thinking of editors visiting here and they have taken that and various bits of information back.

As for sackings I think it highly unlikely in the extreme - I believe the AOL reaction is probably going to be it is your mess, you sort it out. Remember they have been aware of this for years and not intervened, even increasing editorial independence in that time. They may, privately, be guiding decisions at a high level, that is possible and part of the normal way of operating since they are responsible for legal and PR aspects of operations. If anyone goes it will be their own decision based on whether they think they have handled things with propriety and in the interests of the directory as a whole, and retain the confidence of fellow editors. A matter for individual conscience and judgement.

One thing about the polls idea - before I left I was toying with setting up polls on an independent site to get around the official reluctance (I have a vague notion I suggested an official poll at some point in a post and it was completely overlooked). I didn't because I couldn't work out how to do the security and also because I thought I would be obliterated by officialdom. If I had the time I would be tempted to do it now. DMOZ Free Press rides again. Project for the future maybe.

I think that would be the last thing they would do! If they wanted polls they could set them up inside easily. Return passwords via the editors feedback link maybe. Where there is a will there is a way. For the Most Evil Editall anyway. ;)

besides your haha and complaining about namecalling, is there anything somehow constructive you have been contributing to this thread? Coming back in this way some 150 postings later, does not help you out;)

IMO Pedsters post #917 was of value because this is an important topic and at that point the thread was quickly going off topic in favor of silly bickering. PedstersPlanet simply pointed this out without any cheap shots or taking sides, now thankfully we're back on topic.

To keep this post on topic, I'll simply add that I agree with brizzie, sidjf and lmocr. ;)

I'm on break from posting and editing because of a serious illness in my family, and although I'm unable to participate I do care deeply about this topic. For the most part I'm quite impressed with the level of debate so far. Please use this opportunity to make the world a better place people! :)

Since DMOZ is still continuing with its image galleries, I am thinking to make a marketing package for realtors and other retailers. Each page will have 40 pictures instead of the minimum 20 and will be unique. I just made one picture to see what is your opinion as DMOZ editor. I will be also thankful if you could add the following new categories under image galleries. Naked realtors, Naked Amazon Stores, Naked ebay Stores, Naked Pharmacies, Naked car dealers. This makes it easier for people to submit since there is no proper category at present time. Thanks. ;) :D
