I have read of people using Wordpress as a CMS, and I am wondering if to go that route. Is anyone using Wordpress as a CMS? Can you share your sites? Can wordpress as a CMS handle a website with many pages? How about lots of traffic? Any other words of advice? I am already using Drupal and others for other sites, I specifically want opinions about using WP as a CMS.
I just launched it, but here is a wordpress site: http://www.osflv.com/ I made it in wordpress because joomlacode was down, and not I like wordpress better than joomla.
Yes! Wordpress can be easily used as a CMS, and I'm sure you can use it with lots of traffic. Here is an interesting post about Wordpress "CMS Enabling" Plugins: http://www.blazenewmedia.com/articles/five-wordpress-cms-enabling-plugins
Thanks! Looks interesting. Some green for your help. . I actually just spent some time playing with WP a little to create this site: Nail Extensions to see if I could use it a CMS. I'll read more on those plugins and see which ones I can integrate. Thanks
I am developing my portfolio using Wordpress. Here is a very helpful article on Wordpress as a content management system: http://www.graphicdesignblog.co.uk/wordpress-as-a-cms-content-management-system/
You can just customise the Layout and the Widgets upto your needs and you will get a Wordpress Site. I have nothing to share at the moment, but it can easily be done. You just need a Little bit of Programming Knowledge to help you with.
Hi there - Yes... it can work well as a CMS. There is an overview article with some great examples here. You do have to be careful with server load. Make sure you work with your hosting techs (get a good hosting plan) on this one. Best - Scott
Thanks for the replies. OSWebmaster, what do you mean about the server load? Will using WP as a CMS use up more resources?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean? Do you mean that WP needs to be modified to act as a CMS? Yes, this is true, but I'm finding out it's not all that hard, and it's actually a lot of fun
Hello Einstein and All - WordPress, with a lot of plugins, or plugins that are not properly written, or plugins that conflict with other plugins can cause an increased load on you server. I imagine it is a problem that happens with other CMS solutions as well. There is actually a plugin that helps you find out which plugins are hogging your server -- Plugin Hog Detector.
