There are other threads on that forum besides this one :)

Kind of hard to believe that not even one application a day is approved, when over 4000 of them were approved last year. ;)

Meta's review and process new editor applications for the entire directory and Category Moderators (CatMods) can do the same for the particular branch that they are Catmod for.

More info can be found at:
    Types of Editor Accounts

    Hope that helps.

Thank you for the information. So meta editors can approve applications for whole DMOZ and catmods for their own category, right?

As far as I know (I am neither :) )
Catmods can process applications in any category within their branch, i.e A Business CatMod could process any new editor applications with in Business/* etc.
Please note that (again to my knowledge) there is no requirement to do so though. Some may never review new applications and others may not review applications for areas that they have no interest or experience in. Applications submitted to foreign languages-i.e World categories would require Meta's/Catmods who can understand the language they are submitted in as well.

    Hope that helps.

    shadow575 is spot on.

It's important to remember that revieewing new editor application is just one of the many many duties that a meta/catmod can participate in.

Just to expand on shadow’s comments: not all metas review new editor applications; only the one’s that have gained experience in the process and have enough time to devote to it.

    A lot.

A lot is more than few. A lot is fewer than all.
