99.9% of website listings on ebay are total crap.
So you must calculate how much time it takes to sort it out in order to find the occasional good site, and how much an average site then will earn you compared to the cost of your time spent in searching for it.

If you can filter out most of the junk you can find some good sites. The ideal sites for me are ones that have some traffic, are a few years old and it was someone's "baby". The trick is figuring out what terms are used by the templaters and what wording is used by the person that is giving up their baby to a good home for a few hundred or thousand bucks.

Tip: Filter out fantastic, stunning, $19.99 (and prices like that), and numbers with lots of zeros at the end.

"Established" used to be a good keyword, but now its being used even for turnkey sites with (often fake) PR.

You can certainly get lucky on eBay, I bought one back in September for $100. Amazingly, no one else bid. This is because the seller did not even put the words "web site" in the sales description, as a result it was not viewed by many potential buyers. The site is a genuine PR4, has 300+ uniques a day and makes about $4 a day in Adsense + more from affiliates.

Just lucky I guess.... I've also bought some real turkeys (or tunrkeys!)

Thanks, don't worry it's offset against the bad sites that I have purchased. I was motivated by this thread to have a good hunt around eBay last night, there does not seem to be much available at the moment.

It's all about luck, right place at the right time.

I've found some domain bargains on eBay, but it takes a lot of time and patience to find decent names there. After a few days monitoring the eBay listings, I felt my time would be better spent on forums (like DigitalPoint) where the sites and domains being offered are more likely to have some value.

ebay is pretty shabby for buying, I've just listed an ngage site on there but we'll have to see what interest I get. Where's best to sell an established website?
