BitTorrent Marketing Experiment

    Hello fellow marketers!

I just made my first attempt with BitTorrent marketing and I must tell you that I have tasted blood :D .

Basically I managed to get a content distribution account with Mininova (all your uploads are featured), uploaded the booklet I wanted to share and watched what happened. The first results indicate 200 downloads within the first hour and going up gradually slower afterwards.

Now I intend to refine the method to obtain an even greater exposure. Any ideas on how I might do that?

    Regards, George

    UPDATE:

24 hours after the initial seeding, the traffic has slowed down considerably. The torrent has now been downloaded 575 times.

Another interesting aspect is how fast Google indexes this sort of pages, when searching for the name of the e-book, the Mininova page appears in the first position in the SERP.

The main approach for a long term traffic source is to somehow ensure that the torrent somehow stays on the front page, or on the first page of the sub category it belongs to. While the first is probably impossible in the long run (torrents are listed chronological order), the second approach can be done (torrents are listed in alphabetical order).

The search aspect is also important (the site has about 8 million daily searches), but the keywords are only taken from torrent's title and not from its description which translates into a relatively narrow keyword list you can target.

Very interesting Geegel. The other day I was thinking about some what the same idea but not through BitTorrents but actually advertising through RapidShare and MegaUpload freely. If you would want to trade traffic tips on these I would be very happy to talk to you about these subjects.

I'm curious to know how much money you made too Geegel. But your experiment does give me an idea or two.

    Buna, Ce Faci?
I am not a Pro but I don't really see the point.
Most people (including me) use Mininova to get FREE stuff... Unless you are giving away a freat ebook with links to paid product and the book is SO AMAZING that people will buy what you recommend!... I just don't see it.

I thought this thread to be dead :).

Anyway, I haven't made any money through direct sales or affiliate links, but I got 2 clients which in turn paid better than any affiliate deals I've ever been into and this was what I wanted in the first place, it was all an exercise of marketing myself. From this perspective the experiment was a success.

As for the metrics, 2 weeks after the torrent was uploaded, the e-book now has 1144 downloads. From day 4 to day 10 the downloads stopped abruptly to a trickle (20-30 downloads), but picked steam again (now on average it gets 100 dls per day). I don't know what caused this. Any hypotheses on this particular issue would be great to hear

Now this has transformed into a long watch. I'm curious to see how the number of dls will behave in the long run. If the current rate maintains itself, then this strategy is definitely a winner due to its residual value.

You might consider writing an ebook about how you did what you did and selling it here. It sounds like something a lot of people might be interested in.

Making DP'ers part with their money is harder than you think :).

This is more of a place to share and find know how and not the place to make money, no matter how busy the BST might look. The idea has its merits though, but I wouldn't waste my time trying to sell a report here.

    I see,

I'm new to this forum, but I've been a full time internet marketer for years and that is a report that would certainly sell (even if it won't sell here).

Congrats on finding a new way to market yourself. Yes sales are nice but the exposure is good as well. You upload it to mininova but it will probably get spread to other torrent networks as well. I only have a couple of concerns, as a frequent torrenter if you will. I do not see a problem of uploading an ebook or product you have made or have the right to distribute. But please I ask do not spam or in a way virus existing products, music albums, software, movies. Bittorrent is already on the same path following limwire and kazaa for viruses and spyware.

That is a very creative way to market yourself, do it fair so not to spam or virus my beloved bittorrent.

    Just my rant. :)
