Write great original, unique content. Get some people to link to you and then you will gain popularity.

Content is the key, fsmedia is right. You have to get an original content, and try to write with the thoughts of everybody must read your text normally. Beware of smileys, too much punctuation and insult. Blogs are usually full of typos :p, eheh

So, are you saying I don't need to submit to search engines? If I just keep updating the content and find sites/blogs to link to me, they will find me? Are their blog directories to submit to?

    Hi Janet!

I would not worry about "submitting to search engines" - they will find you. If you are worried about them not finding you, then sign up for http://www.technorati.com/ and tag your articles - that will get you crawled - no problem. There are blog directories that only accept blogs - check out http://www.blogparty.net/ for some other resources.

What do you want to blog about?

I can't speak for anyone else but I personally believe that there is no need to submit your site to search engines. Provided you can get decent backlinks from other popular sites the search engine spiders will come along and index your site for you.

Just punch the term "Blog Directory" into a Google search, you can't miss them. ;)

Content is key, but it will be a waste if you don't get anybody over to see it. Also it will not hurt submitting to search engines and directories (has actually helped me), reads other blogs and genuinely comment. Take the time and be active in forums/communities. Make sure you have the basic SEO down, etc.

There are plenty of thing to do.

Lots of regularly updated content with incoming (and outgoing) relevant links are the base.

Then make sure you tag for technorati.

Post useful comments on other's blogs.

Try to get on a social bookmarking site or two.

    Keep posting!

You can do many things in promoting a blog from writing a fresh and unique contents, submit to general directories and niche directory for blog and put your link to your forum signature and post.
    Good luck('',)

I agree, original works can do wonders. Google likes original works and also dont worry of search engines, they will find you one way or the other if you have good content. Important tip: Make your content spelling and grammer mistakes free and then see the magic. Do keep ping to technorati, tag, flur and other blog networks. It helps a lot.

My blog directory is listed in the lists above at both at Blogparty and at Robins Goods New Media Top 55 RSS list.

I have a press release going out to Yahoo and Google news tomorrow, so anyone that gets in today should get some decent extra exposure.

I bought DevBlogs.org here at DP and rebranded it to 5 Star Blogs. It should be a PR5 soon, but currently has no PR. It isn't sandboxed though and is getting some decent traffic considering it's pretty new.

    Feel free to submit - www.5starblogs.com :)

I do all reviews and screenshots by hand so there is sometimes a 48 hour wait, but I plan to do all approvals tonight before the press release hits tomorrow.

My friend and I did a blog a couple months ago and got a big initial traffic boost from submitting to blog directories. (If you go to realestaterblog.com and look at all the little banners on the left menu, you'll see the sites...)
