Preferably making it web 2.0 is my new trend... anything else looks outdated to me.

That is of course only goes unless a client wants something different. :)

Yeah, No novelty fonts in most cases. Sometimes they are suitable, but 99% of the time they take away too much from the over all

What the customer wants is more important than anything else really.

    Usable,
    Lightweight

Are two key elements (unless there's a specific demand for something else)

BTW, the term Web 2.0 doesn't actually refer to the style of design.

    http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/oreilly/tim/news/2005/09/30/what-is-web-20.html

They were the people who actually coined the term Web 2.0 as well, so I reckon they know what they're on about.

    1) I try to keep the same border color on all my elements. For example if I have a green #xxxxxx border in the header, then I will have the same #xxxxxx in my sidebar, content area etc. Buttons can have a white color, since I've seen that it makes them stand out a bit.

    2) I try to make the background of the site in contrast with the content area. For some reason it seems to make the content stand out a bit more.

    3) Text is the last one that I edit. Why? I like to focus on the 'drawing part' first then try to find a font that fits the design, not the other way around.

    Nice tips all of you.

True, hard to adapt after the needs of the client but true.

Again, same thing as I said before. The creativity begins here ;).

For some reason when I see/read Web 2.0 I see glossy buttons and strip lines... Web 2.0 is a vast concept. :p

that's the key element of great web design in my opinion.

    Well, OBVIOUSLY!

    +reps ;)

    Man ansi,
You gotta learn to overlook that mess. There are so many people that are "designers" that are "good" at "web 2.0". There are so many of the experts that I have decided to let them call themselves and their service what they wish. After all, It only makes the creditable folks look better. That is unless the customer wants a web2.0 site that they will turn their modem on and download themselves to the site.
I used to work at BestBuy in computers and there really are people that use terminology like that, lol.

Client 1st. Sometimes there is no accounting for tastes. But then, it is partly your job to make them see the error in their poor taste, tactfully, to make them shine. Still, they are the ones paying the bill.

K.I.S.S. is good. If one can't figure out the navigation, it's trash. Clean code falls in this category too I think. I ran into a site the other day that had over 500 errors on the validation page. 500+, loaded rough, ran rougher - total trash.

Design, design, design: no excuse for ugly or fad. ! ! Think outside the 'BOX' ! !
