Marketing a real estate directory.

Looking for help/tips on how to market my real estate directory.

The main things I am concentrating on at the moment are

Submission to niche directory lists like http://www.web-directories.ws/Niche/Real_Estate/

Submitting to other real estate directories.

Submitting articles to ezinearticles.com (mainly for traffic)

Blog posts reviews on both real estate blogs and webmaster blogs.

Anybody got good ideas on how to market a niche directory? Any help would be most appreciated.

Real estate is not any different from any other niche. So market it like other niche directory owners do.

 

You can probably get a few links by visiting real estate forums or forums like this and post information like you just did. You probably already know that there are several real estate forums. Offer a discount or free submission to forum members and let them know that you appreciate any links back to your site.

A blog of your own would help too.

I do have a blog but no posts as yet! I am going to start however because this could bring in traffic to the directory.

I am professional SEO so I am working on this side of things. Looking to take top ten spot for 'real estate directory' and 'real estate directories' in Google within the next 3 to 6 months.

One big thing I am doing at the moment is adding quality sites myself to fill categories.

I think you are following the right path already.

 

I just started a real estate portal also and I have already purchased a couple of blog posts and some featured links in directories. I am now trying to figure out what kind of opportunities there might be to partner up with some complimentary sites.

I don't mean to sound harsh but you might want to consider working a bit on the look of your site before spending time or money on promotion.

I understand that Google gives the credit to the websites that have many people visiting them.

Follow up to the existing links, ask the webmasters to upgrade there links periodically. You could give them a benefit of adding more characters to the same link, or highlighted Titles, texts, or some selective colored texts, etc. This would gain you the benefit of more visits (unique visitors are not the defining factor), hence a more popular website.

I want to add that, you should add some content to the website/pages. This would add strength to your webpages and no doubt interest people to have there link featured on such a page having some content. The content could generally share the relevant news updates, researched information on the topics..

 

I think your real estate directory will be up there too! I really like the design of www.36towns.com looks like you have put a lot of work into it.

No no, it's way too early to call it quits yet.

 

There has been progress in ranking for some of my key terms in Google. Top 20 for ‘real estate directory’ and top 10 for ‘real estate directories’.

These are for Google.co.uk not showing for .com yet however I don’t think that will be far behind.

I have decided to change the design of the directory to a more professional type design. I don’t feel the current design works so hopefully have a more business like design up and running within a month.
