I was #'s 1 & 2 for "Log Splitters" almost just by accident a few years ago.. so I had it pointing to Amazon and made several hundred dollars in affiliate commissions :) long gone though now and I'm sure it wouldn't last as long any more.

Agreed -- same here. I rank high on some keywords on yahoo and google at the same time. Traffic-wise, those are sometimes as off as 99/1%

    Sad but true ;)

you nubs, just because you rank high out of xxx,xxx search results doesn't mean your gonna get traffic. most likely your ranking for something like "cure my foot disease right now please" or some longtail keywords that get no traffic. aim for keywords that actually bring traffic.

    :D

well to be honest my home page has a good content with a good amount of related keywords all over the page...i have read good books for working on Google but not yahoo...i think yahoo gives you more credit for the keyword if you have a good content than lots of backlinks....
because my site is ranked higher than lots of big sites that have way more back links than mine but they have no content/text on the home page what so ever. i hope this helps!!!

well sometimes when you get more results on the SE that means the keyword is popular...let's say GAMES...which is related to my site, and my keyword is really good, i have done my researches. and it's sending me lots of visitors through google...(i am on top of the page 2 of google.com) but for some reason yahoo.co.uk sends me half of the amount of google visitors despite of being #2 result...!!

    Agreed.
One of my sites is number one on yahoo for a very popular keyword (over 100 million results) but on Yahoo updates I have gone down to Position 3 or 4 or 5 and then 2 weeks later back at number 1.

    Does it make any difference?
Hardly at all....80% of my traffic comes from the mighty Google according to awstats  (for all sites!!)

Its a shame as yahoo is a great SE IMO

It's funny to see everyone working so hard to get SE rankings, when the #1 rule to remember in making money on the internet is "forget the search engines!" They are such a small percentage of traffic compared to the total traffic on the internet, and one morning you wake up and find that google, yahoo, ect. has changed their algorithms, and all your traffic is gone! Wake up people !!

lol thats your only way to make steady income without paying for it. Its the best place to get tons of visitors, not even buying paid advertising on a popular website could bring you the same amount of traffic as a good ranked keyword can.

I dunno what your talking about but the search engines are the webmasters heart. Without it there wouldn't be any of the websites you see today, everyone would be affiliate marketers and it would be a saturated to hell field.

Yes, but you are limited to how much you can make, as SE traffic is severly limited (something like 5% of total internet traffic) Sure, you have to pay for traffic, but in reality you pay for it anyways; in hours you spend on optimizing, getting links, ect. What is your time worth? I'm just saying that you can't expect to make $50k per day with google, yahoo, ect because of the limited traffic available.

nobody heres gonna make 50k a day, i don't even think some of the big sites even make that much. and you can't make 50k a day unless you had an army under you for affiliate marketing unless you sold boats or something but something tells me you can't sell 10 boats everyday.
