I use AVG and haven't had problems with it. I'm not sure it's the best though.

I use ESET NOD32. It's worth the subscription price and you barely notice it's there. Quick automatic updating too. If you are looking for a free alternative, I always recommend AVG Antivirus to people. It's also great and the updates are frequent.

I am using NOD32 since last 8 months. I have no complaint yet. Recently they have developed nice GNU version of NOD32 called smart security. It looks really awesome.
NOD32 doesn't eat memory. so it is best

    I use Panda.

I used to work as a bench tech in a computer store. We had a PC with around 1tb of customer data backups on it. So I decided to run a test to compare Nod32 and Panda. Nod32 was installed and actively scanning the system. I uninstalled Nod32 and installed Panda IS 2007. Ran a complete scan with panda and found 242,000 spyware/viruses/trojans . havent turned back since.

Nod 32 is the best imo, but AVG Free does a great job to. Much better then Norton.

NOD32 SMART SECURITY is good.... it has inbuilt firewall, as NOD32 anti virus only doesnt have...

Also bitdefender is good in detecting lots of virus, but not good in deleting them and slows your computer !

    Hi All,

PC doctor tools work fine and now they update nicely as well with antivirus and adware guards built in the same setup.

    In my opinion:

    1) NOD32

    2) ZoneAlarm

    3) Kaspersky

You're good with either one of these three.

Most of my clients prefer Norton. Maybe it's perceived value them mixed with marketing? Point is, I've never had any issues with it and have been installing it for clients for over 6 years. They like it. It's the best for them. It catches viruses. I know because I service their computers monthly.

I've used PC Cillin, AVG, Norton, ZoneAlarm (Killed 2 different laptops), McAfee (years ago until killed one desktop), and Avast.

When I'm at clients' homes, and I see they don't have AV, I install Avast for them. Used to do AVG for them, but I just like Avast for some reason.

Each of these programs have done the job in nabbing viruses. McAfee Stinger has made my job easier before. I tend to not argue with my clients when they prefer something. I've thought in the back of my mind before that it might take a "Norton crash" that I read about everywhere, for me to convince my clients about it's issues, but it's been solid like I've stated. I've actually grown to like it and with '08 it's less intensive on the resources.

The best antivirus is not opening attachments arbitrarily, knowing a program before you install it, and staying away from questionable sites. I don't trust anything executable that comes into my inbox. Must scan it first.

I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard good things about Nod32.
