Let me get this straight

User gets domain for 1$, then refers 10 friends and each one of them gets a domain for 1$ so in total you get paid 11$ for 11 domains that cost about 70$. According to that not only you don't make 3$ per domain but you lose money. Am I missing something here?

He pays $1 > 10 other people pay $1 = $11
now the first one gets the domain =3-4 profit
and each of the 10 other people invite 10 = 100 people which will equal to = 30-40 profit and the other 1000 people also invite and so on

you got messed up you thought the money that comes out of 11 people is $11 which is totally wrong
if everone of them wants to get a domain the money that comes out of the 11 people is $110 because they are also inviting others and others and others..

The idea is a pyramidal, but upon closer inspection I think it could work.

You, don't make any money or anything and you're not obligated to. You just have 10 people pay for your privilege to a domain. It's not bad.

The chance that each person will refer 10 people who all pay $1 is low. Other pyramid schemes has a center who picks who gets paid. In this particular case, all the work is up to the referrer.

If you NEED the $ from the second level to repay (or pay for the domain) the first level, you have your self a pyramid. You need more and more "investors" to repay the previous level.

MLM means the first level gets a percentage of the profit from the second and all levels below. Each person gets a cut from all the levels below them.

 

I've been around with pyramid schemes for awhile now, so I'm not oblivious to it.

I guess if you justify it like that it'd be a pyramid scheme. I'm curious to know if the same could be said about any of those incentive sites that offer free iPods, PS3s, Wiis, etc.

 

They pay for the product with advertising revenue.

I tell you i will give you an ipod nano (~$100) if you get 1000 people to visit my site and click on the link. If I get 20 cents per click than I will have made $200 by the time I need to buy you a nano. If i make the same offer to 10 people, i bet half will never make it 1000 clicks. I pocket that money.
