Is it bad if I use my actual URL in my DP sig, and should I just use the TinyURL I am using at the mo, or is it safe to just put the proper URL. Thanks in advance
I often wondered about that too. Lets say you run a search engine and like most all SE's, you wanna serve quality results. Wouldn't it be logical to devalue links, to a degree, if you know a webmaster is part of an SEO community? On the other hand, your competitors could use this against you, easily. Maybe SE's don't count the links at all from DP or other SEO type forums, or just count them as 'one'. Good question.....
From my experience when doing a simple search for my sites in Google I have found my links here at DP and other webmaster forums. I really dont think that Google devalues them either. Otherwise they would not be indexed.
The get indexed fast and they are considered back links by Google. Why would you not put your link here? I have not found any devalued by Google.
DP happens to be one of the best forum to put your links in your signature. Google seems to love this forum.
It should be fine if u use ur actual url. But IMO me and many others use tinyurl bcz dp's signature limits are exceeded if we use original url. Otherwise it should be fine if u use original url.
Are you talking about how Google treats it, or the fact that your competitors/ enemies might your life a living hell by spamming and making attempts to compromise the site ? I don't think there is anything wrong in putting the actual URL in your signature. In many cases, I choose not to go to a URL if I see the tinyurl thingy while hovering over it with my mouse
DP signatures are one of the most sought after. Even if you don't put your sites in the sig, you can rent it out on a monthly basis.
DP sig links have basically no SEO value, you are better off renting them out and buying decent links with the money if you are doing it for PR or SERPs. However they are excellent for traffic.
A link is a link, even if it has low value. Many links are many links, even from the same IP. Every links has a minimum value...although putting a webmaster related link in your sig is probably better than anything totally unrelated.
No wonder there is such active trading for DP Sig links it seemed to help a lot for SEO purposes, just wonder does Avatar helps also?
A link is a link. noone here knows with any certainty that is has a positive, neutral or negative value. They get counted for backlinks and are indexed quickly. Id say they are a good thing.
I'd be sure to include my anchor text, and the real URL to avoid any redirects. If you are selling widgets, use that instead of what you are currently using. The anchor text can help you rank higher in the SE's. You have links in your signature, I'd use my keywords to help provide ranking for them.. Unless, you dont want others to know your website address and what keywords your trying/are ranking for. Good luck in your SEO! I'd replace: ToffeeBlue.com - Everton Fans Community with "Everton Fans Community" myself, unless your trying to gain recognition on your domain name. It seems the less words in your anchor text, the more weight each word is given.
