I'm moving to Australia (from Norway) in 7 days and I just noticed that all the isp's in the town (Perth) I'm moving to is only offering limited bandwidth packages, unless you want to pay a fortune.. How do people download stuff down there? like torrents? :b
I believe they have stricter laws on things such as Torrents... I know just a couple of years ago they banned Kazaa. Anyone using it, could get charged. Perhaps the bandwidth limit thing helps them control these things Not for sure though... just a guess on this one!
Mine sucks My dad tells me we have unlimited turns out "unlimited" means 13gb Speed is great, but with the amount me and my sister download it sucks
even in Australia these problem occur this is shocking India is improving a great deal now, now I am able to see lots of un-limited packages these days. I think aussies might have un-limited packs, may be u need to take a look at the local isp's too
BTW, Whats the speed in Norway?, I would prefer living in Norway rather than AUS. Cuz Norway is a exotic country... )
i think i couldn't live with limited bandwidth. We've got a couple of ISPs in my country that after you exceed the limit, they lower your speed and you can download anything you want.
Hope you can understand that but these are the plans that telstra offer. So if you want unlimited you have to deal with slower speeds. I'm on the 60gb one so i do fine with torrents but I could always use more bandwidth.
We live in India and things are improving a lot. Our speed and total download gigs are better. Australia, considered as a developed country is limiting its bandwidth for surfing - Doesn't sound good
Where are you from ? That prices seems much worse than I got, and I thought I have bad internet. 1536/368Kbps = $40-50/month [unlimited, no FUP] i had 1536/512Kbps (+-500%) = $25-30/month [unlimited, but they dont like high traffic, limits on torrents] But there is also 10/1Mbps = $30/month (!!!!!) < i have no idea how is this possible, Im sure there is catch because from same provider 8/1Mbps for $75, That prices arent bad, but upload is so low 2Mbps is max, and that is nothing, I would take 10/10Mbps atleast
Woo I'm in Perth too I use iinet, it's um, $70 maybe for 20GB peak traffic, 40GB offpeak, (offpeak is 2am - lunch). After you exceed that you'll be killed back to 52k (I had it for a few days and I cried), but its for each time. For example if you use up your 20GB peak traffic, but still have some offpeak left, only the peak traffic will be shaped. Speed is 8mb currently but should be going up to 24mb when I get another router (ADSL2) That being said, it's slightly annoying having a limit but its the best we can do
I heard there is a deal in Australia that won 2007 for best deal. It cost like $70 for unlimited download ADSL2+ of 150GB (excluding upload) and 40GB is peak hour and 110GB is off peak.
Still prices are pretty good..In Pakistan internet is ultra expensive but prices are reducing now.I used to have a 256k dsl line with 5 gb bandwidth for 100$ usd per month. Now i am using 1mb dsl unlimited for 100$ and wimax connection 512kb speed with 10 gb per month for 30usd per month.
the thing is that majority of web servers are in the US which is in the west part of the world and india , australia bieng in the east have this bandwith problem coz we are quite far from US thats the main reason of this problem
Yeh it sucks, I get good speed, but with only 60gb total a month, I'm usually on dialup by the end of the month. Going to live in Germany this year, am going to break the world record for amount of stuff downloaded
You should check out http://whirlpool.net.au/ Basically it is The Place to find all the best broadband deals in Australia as well as any ISP/Internet related discussions. You may also want to ask your question there as you will get responses from fellow users and local ISPs.
