You did. Back in item71 in this thread you said cherryboys was nothing more than a doorway to UGAS, which, like everything you claim, is factually incorrect.

The information I found is publicly available on their site. Here's a hint - look under "webmasters" on their site.

I have no relationship with any site mentioned in this thread (other than DMOZ). I don't even have a website.

I didn't realize this thread would get this much response.
It seems we have hit a nerve.

Now, can the editors at DMOZ please do something this time!
It's tiring to keep getting excuses, and it looks really bad to the SEO industry when scummy stuff is going on, and makes honest people's jobs harder.

I can't reveal much, but there is something going on right now that can challenge the editorial power of DMOZ with more editors and higher quality. You can laugh now...:)

Dave, DMOZ threads have been getting attention on DP for a long time now, that is why we have a lot of editors posting here now!

I have seen on other forums anti-DMOZ bashing threads, so that shows you how big this subject is on all the forums!

That anti-DMOZ bashing stuff was in response to the threads here on Digital Point......

I looked at their web site under webmaster as you suggested, and this is what I found:

"All businesses are about the bottom line. Here are a dozen rock-solid, bottom line reasons to choose UGAS.com as your Affiliate Program Of Choice.

    1. Toll-free Tech Support Hotline for Affiliates.
    2. Unmatched click-thru bonus program.
    3. Get paid without making a single sale.
    4. Free Gay Site Hosting: www(.)unitedgaysites(.)com/freehost.html"

This is the referance to the above page: mp(.)ugas(.)com/wmtour/protected.html?refwm=0

Now click on free gay site hosting link that UGAS provides which takes you to: www(.)cybersexnetworkfreehosting().com/

What do we find in the front page of this site?

"As long as you use any of our AVS Services to protect your free hosted sites, we will provide you with all the content you need. New content is added monthly. "

No wonder in UGAS web site they state the following:

"Paid advertising is one route and it can be effective. It can also be very, very expensive. The simplest, cheapest and most effective method of bringing in visitors is known as link trading (sorry, no acronym!). There are countless Adult Sites on the Web and many of them eagerly trade links, they place a banner on their site that takes visitors to your site and you place a banner for their site on yours. A few hours devoted to link trading can really crank up the traffic flow at your site, for free!"

What better link trading than DMOZ? well, you don't even need to trade, just add your links to DMOZ.

This is very profitable according to UGAS also, here is the text from their site:

"Tired of your day job? Many UGAS.com Affiliates are currently earning in excess of $5,000 a month. Others receive as much as $30,000. And our peak performers are taking home $100,000 a month, and more. UGAS.com pays out millions of dollars to our Affiliates every two weeks"

Here you have a business that you don't need to pay for any hosting or products and you can make money by having links, do you still think being DMOZ editor is not profitable?

So the deal is, you become an editor and put links to your affiliate sites in the directory and those of your friends that are partners, right

Pagode was referring to sites containing stories of adults getting their sick perverted kicks from stories of children being spanked. Those are the only story sites mentioned in this thread. And you know that. And that pagode wants them gone - he reported them. Now I don't think listing such sites is in any way appropriate for a body such as DMOZ, many editors disagree with their listing. But those are not child rape web sites. I am all for using emotive language in its right place but in the case of those sites it is not right to put them in the same class as the child rapist networking category sites. But you knew that anyway, you aren't that stupid so you're playing your own game, and it ain't clever.

Credit where credit is due though, good work on the UGAS matter. When I first read the UGAS scheme it looked ambiguous and I still think it is - UGAS itself is an affiliate AVS scheme not an affiliate content provider. So dustyg was right on that score. But at the same time UGAS is pushing its affiliates to cybersexnetworkfreehosting.com which most certainly is an affiliate content provider. Don't know if they are the same company but they are certainly linked. I suppose it is possible some UGAS affiliates are not also cybersexnetworkfreehosting.com content users and have their own unique content. But why go to the bother. How you tell them apart I have no idea, but I would suggest dusty that you return with this new information and start over.

Do me a favor, where do you think this scummy stuff is coming from!

It's is generally a good forum for having a good open discussion. RZ is boring these days now lying spammer baiting is prohibited. ;)

It has been going on so many years editors are completely immune. Most of the bashing is based on complete misunderstanding of DMOZ and wild speculation on why someone's 1 in 500 million web sites hasn't been listed in the last year. Answer it is 1 in 500 million. But sometimes, once in a while, something legitimate emerges and it looks like this thread has something real for once. Though unfortunately for some it still isn't proof of corruption.

It omits to mention the amount of time and $$$ you have to spend to get the number of hits necessary to earn $5 let alone $5,000. But I'll bet UGAS is well off. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

That only makes it all the more difficult to understand how they apparently wield so much power in the inner sanctum of DMOZ.

I don't think they do. It is a very specialised branch that most editors steer well clear of, and they've developed their own incomprehensible interpretations of guidelines or lack of them so it makes it even more difficult for non-Adult editors to get a grasp of what they are doing. Adult editors might be bashed out here and so have the same immunity as other editors but they also get regularly bashed internally, which isolates them even more. A large reason why you see such a lot of legacy evidence of historical abuse is because very few want to go there and help maintain it. There are areas of Adult even the most hardened Adult editors don't like venturing into. Maybe adding a content criteria that says if it makes you puke reject it might help.

Why not just shut that part of the directory down?

There are plenty of directory sites that specialize in porn!

Why does DMOZ have to engage in it period

Still not sure my friend brizzie, no problem. Here is little more information that you can give to our friend DustyG. ;)

Look at IP location of cherryboys and you will see the site is hosted on a server owned by Tri Tech Entertainment. Who is this Tri Tech Entertainment?
Let's go back to our old friends UGAS, in their moreinfo.html page you will see the following:

    "How will I be billed?
'Tri-Tech Internet, Inc' will appear on your credit card statement."

I remember that you previously mentioned that only small percentage of all web sites and those who apply to DMOZ will actually be accepted in DMOZ, I think it was about 1 percent that you mentioned.

Look at the web sites hosted on that server, you will be surprised how many of those are listed on DMOZ. ;)

I suggested splitting it off, which would effectively kill it. But lots of people have put in 1000s of hours of work and you would be throwing out the less bad with the bad. Certainly taking out the galleries completely would help. There is no consensus for splitting or taking down all or some of it. So it will stay. Unfortunately. Next best - clean it up.
Because porn is a large part of the Internet and there were editors willing to add content to it. Personally I think it was a mistake to include it in the first place; how it has turned out was predictable given the industry it reflects. But then the gambling industry is just as sleazy in some respects. And where do you stop?

From my reading of UGAS info the deal is the webmaster uploads their site to a UGAS server so it would make sense that cherryboys, using UGAS AVS services, would be on their server, along with other sites using paid hosting and their own content. If anything that piece of information is a backward step. I would expect the affiliate content users to be on a cybersexnetworkfreehosting.com server. Unless cybersexnetworkfreehosting.com is an integral part of UGAS. Keep going!
I think I was saying Adult is about 1% of DMOZ listings. But 5m listings and 500m potential sites is 1% too. Of those who submit to DMOZ roughly 10-20% will get listed and there is a lot of variation in different parts of the directory - in places it is nearer 100%, elsewhere more or less nothing.

    cybersexnetworkfreehosting(.)com

    Registrant:
    Tri-tech Internet Services, Inc

    UGAS(.)com

    Registrant:
    Tri-Tech Internet Services Inc, ;)

Is it OK now or there is something else that you are wondering? ;)

As I said before, look at that server, you see a very high percentage of sites being listed on DMOZ. ;)

I am sure it is all just one big innocent mistake.

Gworld, I was suggesting that you attack the problem, not the person, especially when the person you are attacking is brizzie who is actually on the same side.

It's just common sense: If you attack your allies and the enemy indiscriminantly, you get labeled a nut and before you know it even your good points are being dismissed as rants. Not to mention the fact that soon you have no allies left.
