    So how did you start in the web industry, i think it would be good to see how many people came from an education into web development and who were self-taught.

    My personal situation is self-taught from day one, i believe this is the best way to go about things, instead of being force fed information, paying money and taking tests. I am guessing most people are self-taught on web applications and development because of the interest factor. A few surveys i have done before show that people first start out on the internet on a few websites that really grasp there interest, then later wonder how the websites work etc. Expanding there knowledge all the time.

    So I see self-teaching the best method for learning if you have a genuine interest, whats your thoughts?

    I got into this whole thing when i was a kid so then i decided to get an A level in IT and now I'm at uni doing Internet management and web design. But to be honest, i end up teaching my lecturers when it comes to specific subjects because quite frankly i have much more experience than they do.

    I started learning html/css/some php by myself in high school and now i'm at university doing it all, although I learn a lot more from teaching myself than I do at university, just doing it for the degree really.

    i'm going at a university of computers and every teacher here is an old guy that doesn't know a thing about javascript, what's "SEO" and stuff like that. i always argue with them because i feel a lot smarter!

    but meh, Bill Gates and the guys from Google quit uni and went really big in Top Forbes.
