I just wrote a blog post on the Tata Nano, The Worlds Cheapest Car on one of my newish blogs. I'm curious what people think about this, and especially Indians. Also Chinese, and other people in general, too. The car is going to be sold for US$ 2,500. It seems to get pretty good gas mileage, etc. And I don't want to rain on the Tata parade (Although I used to work with the Modi's when I lived in India), and I certainly would like to see anything that helped people in India, as I liked most Indian people very much during the years I lived there, but . . . Is replacing every Bajaj, Stella, dilapidated Vespa and old Lambretta with a car a good idea in the bigger cities? Is it reasonable to put this within the reach of so many people? I just worry about the extra pollution, and can imagine that there might be other bad side effects, too. I live in China at the moment, and a $2,500 new car is a scary proposition here, in alot of ways. Or, will this just go the way of the Yugo (anybody remember that one?) and disappear as a failed project within a couple of years?
Really a shame that the max speed is only 90kmph, But it looks cool and affordable. Let's see how it takes off on the indian roads.
Let's hope it doesn't break down and cause any harm I saw this in the Yahoo news today. Interesting... we also have the world's cheapest laptop out there too eh
It isn't the most beautiful but I would invest in them and buy like 20 of them and supe them all up to be honest
Top speed of just 55.9mph. It's just a city run around then. Thanks, are they going to be sold in the UK?
20 inch rims, a rear spoiler, chrome grill, a body kit, and also some aftermarket tuner labels on it, and some neon lights under it.. and that car will be PIMP!!!!
The thing looks like a roller skate. LMAO. If it only does 55 mph I certainly wouldn't buy it. I just paid $500 for a 1992 Ford Tempo to run as a winter beater and it does at least 80 mph. That is something that will not take in America if they even made one that met the safety standards here. Seems the trendy thing here is them hybrid jobs. Frankly I am red neck country boy and would personally like to run a Crew Cab long bed diesel 4x4 on 44's. How you like that Green Peace?
The car is only for India. It does not has an AC. And $2500 is only the dealer price. The price is only if 1 USD = Rs 40. However with 1USD = Rs. 38, and add the taxes etc, it will be $3000. Only 623 cc. Not much horse power. On the plus point - Gives 50 mpg, small - so easy to park, yes it is inexpensive.
Don't start me in a Ford vs Chevy war here. I do that on a daily basis. As for the guy that said it has no AC I watched that video on that link to this guys blog and it said that the deluxe models do have AC. Of course as with any vehicle the deluxe model costs more. Also I bought that Tempo purely for winter beater and the price was right for something that runs, drives and is inspected. Once I rebuild the transmission in my truck this spring then I will start driving it more again. That Tempo is a lot better on fuel then my F 150 though. That is what happens when you put performance parts and big tires on a truck though. I BLEED BLUE. FORD FOREVER.
