I guess I'm not the first one who had this idea, it's really not that originel but still I thought it would be useful for some here to share this:

Especially in European countries fees on cashing USD checks are very high, so my advice is to choose to get paid by gift certificate and to sell it on ebay.com, and get paid by PayPal, afterwards. No bank fees, lower minimum payout, (almost) full commission!

How much do you pay your bank? Following your procedure causes a delay in payment (list the gift certificate- get offers-get paid- wire transfer etc)

Much! I don't recall exactly, I luckily aren't dependent on USD checks any more. But depending on the check amount, it was up to 40% fees! Some German banks even wait up to 30 days until they credit you the check.

I got my Amazon gift certificate yesterday, put it quickly on ebay, and as always, it was sold within hours since I made it a "buy now" auction, whereby the price for the gift certificate at ebay was $1 under the actual amount of it. This always has worked. :) I think I'll have the amount in my bank account on money or tuesday by wire transfer. So, the time delay is rather insignificant. Actually much faster than wait til you get the check by mail from the US.

i think it is a good idea but the problem is that paypal sucks. any little problem and they will close your account and bye bye money or expect a hell of a fight and a long wait to get your paypal funds back. search google why paypal sucks and you will see.

It's a good idea, I have a UK bank account and I think it costs around £6 to process a foreign cheque over £100

Only in some countries and banks. But still this amazon thing doesn’t seem to pay much.

Unbelievable as it seems, I have seen Amazon Gift Certificates that go for more than their face value on eBay. For example a US$100 certificate recently sold for U$102!

It's not THAT expensive. I have set my minimum check amount to $2000, and with that amount the bank fees for a USD check are like 2 or 3% so it's negligible.

I don't mind waiting a few months to get my check.

Also, I asked the Amazon Affiliate managers to add a PayPal payment option - you should all ask too. If enough people ask they will probably do it.

    This is only 6% !

With PayPal fees and eBay fees, the amount you'll get will probably be the same.
If you directly take the check you don't have to go through the hassle of selling the gift certificate.
