    Hi,

I was just wondering if it was possible to put the thread start date next to the thread author/starter... I find myself hunting it down so many times, even after not finding it before. Or, am I possible REALLY blind and missing it???

I was worried about that. Sorry, I didn't scan back far enough. I went a couple of pages, then got lazy. This forum makes me even lazier than I though I was when GOOGLE came out!

    Thanks for showing me.

You know what? I just took a peek at the data model for the forum, and it looks like it *could* be possible without adding extra SQL queries (something I wouldn't be willing to do).

But I really wouldn't want it to add clutter, so if someone comes up with a good mock-up that isn't cosmetically lame/cluttered, I might do it.

I was thinking just a case of:

    -----------------------------
    THREAD TITLE
    thread author - 2006/01/01
    -----------------------------

    Is that what you mean?

Do you really care about the actual date though? What about a relative date... like:

    (123 days old)

    or something like that.

I'd prefer the count of days. Takes less brain-flops to compute.

Actually, that's true. I work with dates a lot, but number of days is fine. Wouldn't that have to be a calculation though, as opposed to a straight print, i.e. more effort.

Effort? It's one line of code and the server's CPU won't even notice the difference.

    Impromptu poll:

    For date: 0.5
    For day-count: 3.5

Either way, it would be cool. Ended up reading a post started 2 years ago that I wanted to post to, but I just don't feel right posting so late in the game.

Not really... internally the date is stored as a unix time stamp, so it needs to be converted to something either way.

    Nice!!!

Color wise, it is a little harder to read than the normal links. Or it might be just from not being used to it yet.

It's intentional... didn't want it to be "in your face".

it just looks kinda weird though how they're all lined up in sporadic places, perhaps make a seperate column for them?

Having a 'Days old' column showing just the number for each thread might look more organized, and it could be black with out being in our face.

    Edit: SVZ suggested that!

Really? You would rather have a whole extra column just for that? I'm trying to keep it as uncluttered as possible, and it seems like adding another column would add to the clutter.

I thought of that, but if you think of it logically, the age of the thread really has to do with the thread itself, not the starter of the thread.
