IE7 vs Adsense ads

Although I use programs such as adsense to earn money, they have not for the most part, made the internet better. I Love The Programs because they make me money, but there are a lot of crappy sites with duplicate ads all over them that are just in the way of good information.

Having said that blocking the ads is not a solution.

 

I would disagree, the money being made means the quality overall is improving (uptime, content quality, imagery, site design etc).


Yeah, there is more junk too, but there was always going to be.

 

Sort of off the subject, but this topic got me interested in the beta. Is it me, or is the only way to get the "beta" program by buying some high priced package of stuff at Microsoft?

While you're doing that - I'll be replacing my Google ads with MSFT ads. To each his own right? I'm not going to fight for a company that doesn't give a rats ass about me. I'm going to ride the bigger wave and cash in - then cash out... but that's just me.

 

yep. i wsould rip down my adsense ad's and replace them with msn ad's so f'ing fast. last thing i would do is stick with google ad's while 90% of surfers use IE, thats just stupid. plus google ad's dont pay all that well to begin with and i couldnt careless about the whole lame ass "spread firefox" thing. let firefox spread their own product.

Pus, FF users have WAY lower CTR than IE users. Also, firefox has the adblocker extension. why the hell would i be interested in promoting a browser that helps to block ad's? imagine if 90% of the internet was on firefox with adblocker, everyone would be singing a different tune then. far as i am concerned, F firefox.

 

good point. the $0.10 - $1 probably won't compensate for loss in revenue.

 

Oh, ohhh, boy, oh boy, Adsense doesn't show up in IE7 beta and that's enough reason for some of us to waste their time on all kind of "what if..." and "horror" stories.

I use IE7 in Vista build 5270 and have no problems with Adsense at all. Maybe your running beta 1 of IE7?

 

I might be doing that too, if MSFT had a publisher program I know what you mean, though. I'm not loyal to Google as an advertising partner, as of yet.

I was responding more to the possibility that IE7 would try to block a majority of on-page ads (like that ill-fated version of Norton AV).

 

That is something I'd like to happen (I am all for MSN not Google anymore) but I don't think it will and if you do have problems it may just be a MSHTML Bug. MSHTML is the rendering engine for IE.

 

My sons use Firefox and they automagically block AdSense ads. My Firefox install does not.
Browser makers are responding to demands from the public for more effective ad blocking. And this is affecting the ability of AdSense and similar ads to display. This situatuation is going to be worse not better.
It suggests we all need to find new ways to monetize our websites.

 

Really? I don't think so... Are they running an older version of Norton anti-virus? That blocked a lot of ads by default, but has since been fixed, I think. Pop-ups are blocked by default, but not adsense.

I've been running Firefox for a long time, and updating to new versions regularly, and have never seen ads removed. Maybe your sons have one of the ad-blocking extensions.

 

I know two extensions do this. Adblock can when properly configured, and a monkey can figure it out.

The other is CustomizeGoogle. I like it better, because you can selectively remove ads. For example, I have ads on everywhere except Gmail.

 

I think Microsoft doesnt really understand the meaning of browsing a webpage within its content. IE is just a tool for visitors. There is no point for webmasters at all in IE. Thats so true

In the corner it says "Error on page" that's usually javascript and might be the reason why the ads are not showing. Did you check it out?

 

I think MS is sending a message to google...we got you by the balls! Wow, I can't image that it will be blocked in the final release, but shows the MS could cripple google if it wanted to...

Sure google could fight it in court...just like netscape did....hmm

 

Why wouldn't msn block google ads?

It makes perfect business sense.

 

Why would Microsoft stop at filtering out Adsense? They are "embracing and enhanching" the contextual ads thingy and could easily "improve user eXPerience" by "upgrading" the ads from Google Adsense to MSN Adcenter.

but, i guess this is the end of adsense...

the new IE 7 doesnt allow for adsense ads. as well as the newest firefox. i give adsense 1 more year.

i guess the ship has came and went....


any other opinions on this?
