Damn... conservatives won...

So yeah if you are in Canada then you probably know what two bad things happened last night... the leafs lost when they should have won... and the conservatives won. At least it was with a minority government. That means they can't ban gay marriage (thankfully), or ban abortion (even more thankfully). I'm not sure what they can do but they better not infringe womens rights. Conservative leader Stephen Harper said that women were put here to follow... oh yeah that will go over well with the womens movement groups.

Yes Stephen, but could you imagine if a gay married man wanted to have an abortion?! Now that is just insane.

I'm totally against gay marriage...I mean come on, why would gay people want to ruin their lives getting married?!!!!

    hehe

Since opinions have been invited, I'll offer mine for that portion of the forum readers who might be interested in a scriptural look at Biblical Arguments Against Gay Marriage

People can do what they want behind closed doors, as long as no-one gets hurt and they not affect anyone outside their house.

But putting a child in a completely different environment to grow up as they have been raised for the past 10,000 years (and are raised in nature, I dont see gay lions adopting cubs), is just stupid.

There is a reason a woman and a man raise a child naturally, they offer a balance to the child, a family environment (not to mention giving them an incentive to reproduce too).

Hm...i think i just turned this thread into a debate...

Elections are decided on far more important things than those trivial issues. Canada, I believe, went from Libs to Cons, because of corruption and scandal. People don't always most people do not vote on 1 or 2 issues alone.

    I agree gworld.

    Here's something to read: bidstrup.com/marriage.htm

It will school any arguements against gay marriage that you have.

Too true. I always woundered why gays are so eager to be allowed to commit the stupid, needless, bourgeois tradition of marriage. :D

Who cares what the bible says about gay marriage beside some sectarian Christian, fanatic fundamentalist lunatics? Completely irrelevant to all people with some common sense and intelligence who can think for themself.

Religion should not and does not have any importance in North America when it comes to these issues. Freedom to practice religion implies freedom from religion.

The people who spew a lot of this crap out either know they are wrong and just try to ignore it because it just plain old bothers them, or are completely ignorant of what the situation really is.

Most of the time it isn't an issue of pro-marriage, but anti-gay.

I am glad the Conservatives won; it is time to clean house.

My biggest reasons for supporting them are financial; I am hoping they will cut taxes WHILE KEEPING THE BUDGET BALANCED. They seem to be a party that believes in smaller, less-expensive government. The Liberals, on the other hand, were getting too comfortable with the idea that government has the right to be everywhere, all the time, and on the taxpayers' dime. The Liberals also seemed quite content to watch Canada's first-world status slip away and have other nations leap-frog past us (in terms of competitiveness, productivity, and standard of living).

Gay marriage and abortion rights were never an issue. I have an opinion on these matters, but they were not an issue for me in regards to the election.

    How wrong you are Taylor!

This country was founded on the principles of religious freedom. If you think religion plays no role in North America then you don't know your US history...oh wait....you are Canadian. The only good thing ever to come out of Canada was You Can't Do that On Television!!!

    hehe.

Well said and is exactly why i am against gays adopting and raising children.

It's just common sense not to give gays the right to adopt children, raising a child is unhealthy.

What gay people do it's up to them but don't let a child grow up in a gay environment.
