Positioning On Blog

Hi,

I need some of your advice on my AdSense positioning on my VoIP / WiFi related blog at VoIP-Sol.com.

Currently the ad block is situated at the top right, just at the top of my navigation. I have just used the standard WP Kubrick theme, so any suggestions on a better layout would be great.

 

I would put another adblock in the place you have now the stocks stuff!
So that people that finish readind a post have always an ad to click without having to scroll up or down...

I have been reading some of Andy Hagans posts over on Performancing about improving monetization of blogs. He consistently reiterates how important it is to have the ads on the left ... maybe that is what I should do.

If you check out his blog network (BizNicheMedia) you'll see the way he has his ads in a left hand column. Is this the best positioning for CTR?

 

You can always check Google heat map also for more ideas!

 

You definitely need to put Adsense in between the posts, use a plugin and remember only max three ad sections on a page.

I would have put one after each of the first two posts, and one in the left column (that I would want to have in the new theme).

Choose a "less travelled" theme.

I've been looking for a WordPress plugin that would shows an ad block below the first post on the home page, but can't find one. Could you point me in the right direction?

 

i put my ads just below the page title (www.ps2crib.com) and i almost have a 2 figure CTR

 

I use Adsense-Deluxe plugin for Wordpress 2.0. I use it to put Adsense in each and every post (very easy, really) and I believe the plugin takes care of me never showing more than 3 adsense blocks even if I'm showing multiple posts.

It even works if I also mix it with adsense code directly in the theme style sheet.

As to your question about left side column themes... I always go for three column themes, so I don't really know any left side column themes. If I were you I'd take the time to go through a lot of lists like this one: Theme Browser and when you got an appealing one, start remaking it to become your own unique theme.

 

phew quite eye-catching ... have you tried to blend the ads and looked how that works out?

 

If you blended those ad blocks in you would have a 2 figure CTR.

What did you do to get your ads targeted?

 

AdSense automatically targets the ads for the page based on content.

I've slightly modified the layout and added another block to the homepage. How does it look?

 

I've recently set up a blog and I'm finding it really difficult to get any ads that are relevant to my posts.

I know there are ads out there for the region I blog on, but they just don't seem to show. I fear it may be because of the code used in the site.

I've tried putting those codes in to tell Adsense where to read, but it made little difference.


Has anyone got any tips on this?

How do these WP things work - can I download a template and use it on any site as a blog?

If you continuously add new content to your site you will start to receive targeted ads. It's a matter of time. In what respect to WP blogs I think the answer is yes since you mention the template author.
