The death of NETSCAPE Navigator

Guys! Heard that Netscape Navigator is now officially being discontinued due to lack of users. It is really sad that an internet icon like Netscape has to die such a disgraceful death. I hope Firefox can battle the monopoly of IE now as effectively as Netscape did in its better days.

Really? I've never used Firefox. What makes it better than IE?

They were total dominant once, it is a great pity and a bit sad for them, I started using them since beta version. But I switched to Firefox when it was out. In technology, you need to be one step faster or you are one step closer to the grave.

Well said! Firefox is steadily expanding its internet browser market share solely due to its superb technology that gives it an edge over the lousy IE browsers. I've heard IE7 is relatively better, but I never felt the need to stray away from Firefox even for testing IE7.

I'm not permitted to post links in my posts as I'm a noob. You can search google news for "netscape navigator" to get the full story.

Yea firefox all the way. Just some stuff to tell. IE7 Does compete with Firefox and Sorta beats it a little. Just Since IE 6's reputation of all the bad stuff. It made IE 7 look bad. Also when IE 6 was there. People used firefox. Now people are used to firefox and they recommend their friends.

Yeap agree, it is something like NT 4 which sucks but because of NT 4, there are still people who believe that Windows 2003 is bad though it has increase by leads and bounds.

Once you are used to a browser it is difficult to change.

Yeah! I read it newspaper. The AOL has disowned it and stopped supporting it because of its inability (in competing with the most popular IE, followed by firefox and safari in that order of popularity) :(

Really sad to hear about that.
Netscape used to be a nifty browser and was so easy to use.

Well Firefox is upto the challenge i think

Too true. Firefox is a horrible browsing experience for me. I use it for testing and thats it, it is just too slow (I mean when it takes 4 seconds to load a template on localhost thats not good), and the way the tabs are done really, really annoys me. Plus I don't see the point of about 90% of the addons. IE - it runs much faster than Firefox for me, and does what it is meant to do - browse the web. But as a coder, it sucks due to bad CSS support.

Safari looks OK, but goes even slower then Firefox, and it always stays on top of the start menu, which annoys me greatly.

Opera is the only browser I like at all, due to the nice custom theme, and in-built features.

I never got to use Netscape, though it is one of the oldest browser, and it is sad that is leaving forever,

It's a tragic ending for netscape. I was using netscape before and preferred it over IE. I know firefox is much better than IE6 but for some strange reason, I'm not much of a firefox fan. I still stick with IE
