    WordPress Compressed All-Inclusive Ping List

When I noticed all the ping lists available for Wordpress I decided to make a clean list from all the sources, available at:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=57413
    http://elliottback.com/wp/archives/2004/11/21/a-list-of-rpc-and-rpc2-to-ping/

Here is the result (just copy and paste this list into Options > Writing > Update Services):
    http://rpc.pingomatic.com
    http://ping.weblogs.se/
    http://blogmatcher.com/u.php
    http://coreblog.org/ping/
    http://www.blogpeople.net/servlet/weblogUpdates
    http://bulkfeeds.net/rpc
    http://trackback.bakeinu.jp/bakeping.php
    http://ping.myblog.jp
    http://ping.bitacoras.com
    http://ping.bloggers.jp/rpc/
    http://ping.blogmura.jp/rpc/
    http://xmlrpc.blogg.de
    http://1470.net/api/ping
    http://bblog.com/ping.php
    http://blog.goo.ne.jp/XMLRPC

Disclaimer: This list is provided "As Is" with no warranties nor guarantees and you should do your own proper research before using it.

If you wanted to ping all services manually (ie. not via pingomatic) you could use the following list:
I prefer this list as it does not rely on pingomatic but rather on WordPress to handle all pings.
    http://api.feedster.com/ping
    http://api.moreover.com/RPC2
    http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2
    http://xping.pubsub.com/ping/
    http://ping.blo.gs/
    http://ping.feedburner.com
    http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php
    http://ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php
    http://rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger/
    http://rpc.icerocket.com:10080/
    http://rpc.newsgator.com/
    http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
    http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2
    http://topicexchange.com/RPC2
    http://www.blogdigger.com/RPC2
    http://www.blogstreet.com/xrbin/xmlrpc.cgi
    http://www.newsisfree.com/RPCCloud
    http://ping.weblogs.se/
    http://blogmatcher.com/u.php
    http://coreblog.org/ping/
    http://www.blogpeople.net/servlet/weblogUpdates
    http://bulkfeeds.net/rpc
    http://trackback.bakeinu.jp/bakeping.php
    http://ping.myblog.jp
    http://ping.bitacoras.com
    http://ping.bloggers.jp/rpc/
    http://ping.blogmura.jp/rpc/
    http://xmlrpc.blogg.de
    http://1470.net/api/ping
    http://bblog.com/ping.php
    http://blog.goo.ne.jp/XMLRPC

Disclaimer: This list is provided "As Is" with no warranties nor guarantees and you should do your own proper research before using it.

(Also remember that some ping services need a manual ping first before they accept automated pings. See http://www.masternewmedia.org/news/2004/11/10/increase_visibility_in_blog_and.htm for that)

Here is how I got to this list:

    1) It is important to note that the 2 above mentioned lists (the 2 url's) do not exclude the possibility that the pingomatic and pingoat services mark you as spammers because you are pinging some services up to 3 times if you are using these lists as-is

You may for instance ping weblogs.com through pingomatic, pingoat and another time manually since it is included in the list as well.

Because of the above the following services were removed from the list:

    http://api.feedster.com/ping
    http://api.moreover.com/RPC2
    http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2
    http://xping.pubsub.com/ping/
    http://www.mod-pubsub.org/ping.php
    http://mod-pubsub.org/kn_apps/blogchatt
    http://ping.blo.gs/
    http://ping.feedburner.com
    http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php
    http://ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php
    http://rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger/
    http://rpc.icerocket.com:10080/
    http://rpc.newsgator.com/
    http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
    http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2
    http://topicexchange.com/RPC2
    http://www.blogdigger.com/RPC2
    http://www.blogstreet.com/xrbin/xmlrpc.cgi
    http://www.newsisfree.com/RPCCloud
    http://www.a2b.cc/setloc/bp.a2b
    http://www.blogshares.com/rpc.php

As they are included in pingomatic.com already (pingomatic was left in the list)

    2) pingoat was removed, but all the services pingoat pings were left in the list so that pingomatic PLUS all the extra ping services listed on pingoat are pinged with the new list. These services are:

    http://ping.weblogs.se/
    http://blogmatcher.com/u.php
    http://coreblog.org/ping/
    http://www.blogpeople.net/servlet/weblogUpdates
    http://bulkfeeds.net/rpc

    3) All sites were checked for a bit decent Alexa ranking and for non-errors, this excludes the following sites from the list:

    http://ping.rootblog.com/rpc.php alexa small
    http://rcs.datashed.net/RPC2 alexa small
    http://rpc.blogbuzzmachine.com/RPC2 alexa small
    http://blogbot.dk/io/xml-rpc.php alexa small
    http://www.blogoole.com/ping/ 403 error
    http://www.snipsnap.org/RPC2 403 error
    http://www.weblogues.com/RPC 403 error
    http://www.lasermemory.com/lsrpc/ 403 error
    http://www.blogroots.com/tb_populi.blog?id=1 404 error
    http://ping.exblog.jp/xmlrpc 404 error
    http://www.bitacoles.net/ping.php 404 error
    http://thingamablog.sourceforge.net/ping.php not to be used
    http://www.blogsnow.com/ping no pings please message
    http://www.blogoon.net/ping/ cannot read
    http://www.popdex.com/addsite.php not a RPC feed
    http://ping.amagle.com/ SQL error
    http://bitacoras.net/ping/ faulty redirect

    4) 2 more services were excluded for special reasons:

    http://ping.cocolog-nifty.com/xmlrpc < OK, but 405 not allowed
    http://blogdb.jp/xmlrpc < OK, but slow

    5) All the other sites were visited to ensure they were working

Good list, but you realize you wasted your time, right?

All you have to do is ping: http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ -- and it pings nearly ALL of the ones you listed above, if not more. That's the reason this ping server was setup (by PhotoMatt), so people wouldn't have to find them or keep track of them.

Well, whoever put that list together wasted a lot of time since's already consolidated into one single ping that does everything for you :)

I wouldn't say "wasted time", just a duplication of effort.

I would also recommend www.pingoat.com over pingomatic!

Awesome, I had a list of 6 I pinged, just found one was dead which is probably why my saves were taking ages, luckily it was the last in the list.

I've removed pingoat and weblogalot and kept pingomatic, google and geourl

Yes, I also feel that pingoat is better and offers more than pingomatic.

Can anyone please explain what this ping thing is all about? Is this so that others can post your content on their website like the way RSS works? I'm confused and new to this idea. Thanks.

websiteideas, this is used to tell other sites on www that the content on your site has updated.

No, this is not related to others posting your content like with rss, it is only to let know the sites that accept pings, that there has been some change in your site (whether you have modified some existing content or whether you have added new content)

    hope that helps :)

by default, it only pings to pingomatic but you can add sites to ping on your own too.

This is a really good thread I wish I saw the first time. Definate green coming as I also prefer to set up my ping as individuals.

Don't forget if you are using this list and don't want Wordpress to hang, you will want to use the No Wait Plugin:
    http://somethingunpredictable.com/wp-no-ping-wait/

I agree, it's kind of sad, I'm putting together a list of resources for bloggers, and what I wind up doing is link to threads like this one on DP.

I am curious - how much gain is there in using a list like the one above over a service like Pingoat? Is Pingoat missing anything major? Or is it more about covering any niche services that it does not cover?
