Brokeback Mountain

I've seen the movie and thought it was very well done. (Go ahead, make all the cracks you want) I'm curious as to who else has seen it and what the thought, but even more curious about who would absolutely refuse to see it. I wonder what percentage of the population has a "never in a million years" mindset regarding a movie like this.

It'll be interesting to see what the awards will do to their box office...

I wouldn't see it. I don't have a "never in a million years" attitude about it, either. It's more like a "life's too short" attitude. I never saw The Notebook either. Just not interested.

Hodgedup posted, what I'd consider to be a good summary of why I don't wanna go see it:

Two guys in love huh???? That's what they call the best movie of the year? Uncomfortable is probably right.

Well, it's far better than Tom Cruise's War of Worlds I guess.

I've seen it yet but already heard some nice reviews..

Lorien's quote of Hodgedup is pretty on target for me. I won't watch 99.9% of straight love stories, don't have much interest in a gay one.

I have no problem with a gay love story, it just doesn't interest me at all. I was visiting family with my wife last weekend, and almost everyone else wanted to see Brokeback Mountain. "It's groundbreaking, beautiful". I protested, the way I always do about going to see love stories. The previous year, the argument was about going to see "About A Boy", some Hugh Grant romantic comedy. I fiercely opposed it, and my uncle and I ended up going to see Master and Commander. This year we saw Munich :D

Yeah, I liked it a lot. Speilberg weirds me out sometimes though. *potential spoiler alert* The erotic/olympic-helicopter flashback scene was too bizzare for me. The rest of it I really liked, though.

Why in the hell, other than if you are gay, would you go to this movie? Disgusting attempt to mainstream a controversial lifestyle. I guarantee they didn't win any awards on merit, they won the awards politically. Never in a million years.

I thought the acting by the two guys in Brokeback Mountain was superb, and they deserve any Oscar or Golden globe nominations. Well made movie, a bit slow - not really my cup of tea as far as genre though (I prefer comedies). Also saw Munich, and was engrossed in it that I didn't feel almost 3 hours pass by.

What is the world coming to? I guess that’s why I don't have a TV or go to movies anymore. Gay propaganda!

    Gay-ist! :D

Whats wrong with making movies about 2 gay guys, instead of a man and a woman? This is the 21st century.

I've heard great things about this film, and all my gay friends love it.
