templates, may be you can access the older account by going to http://{yourhost.com}/cPanel or the http://{IP}/cpanel and then enter your old login details, OR you can contact your web host for help in backup the site.

 

I'm not sure why anyone would expect files to be sent via email. When I buy a site I expect the domain push and access to the site in some fashion. If the seller needs to send me a zip because it's on a shared account, I'll have no problem with that as well.

Jut becaus you paid $350 for a site does not mean that someone is going to serve you tea.

WOW, All of this over something soooo simple?

Seller or buyer. Whoever has the login info to cpanel. Is it that difficult for you to go into cpanel, backups, and then dload a backup of the db? It takes less than 30 seconds. Even the download is only a few kb usually.

If the seller has the login, then get the databases and email them to him. No zipping needed if you dload them through cpanel. It will at least put all of this to an end.

 

Charlie: what do you expect the zip file to contain?

*.html, *.php and .sql ? or the cpanel backup file?

This is a serious question, because if you don't know or are unwilling to logon to cpanel to do it yourself, how are you going to restore a mysql dump ?

 

we both have the cpanel info..the nameservers have been changed,but no files where ever put on his server.i cant access the phpmyadmin via root override.i am awaiting nameservers to change,so i can login to cpanel,and then email the files,per his request

 

database must be dumped..thats how ive always done it..

 

it is simple to login to cpanel, then click on the "Backup" icon. then you choose the db you want to backup, and click on the backup link. It will download a zip fil to your comp. You then just email it or upload it.

 

If you have root access just goto /var/lib/mysql/ and do a zip mydbase.zip /var/lib/mysql/mydbase

that of course means he has to have root access to install the database again ... and needs to STOP mysql before doing so "service mysqld stop"

Someone pays $350 dollars for something and then does not want to login to cpanel, click the icon that says backup and follow the on screen instructions? (Which are like 2 steps). Instead, takes more time to fill out a paypal fraud complaint?

Beware, this type of buyer may be looking to get the site and not have to pay for it. When you buy the site you are paying for the domain name (which if I read correctly was already pushed to you), and the website, which you have just as much access to as the seller does at this point since this thread shows he gave you login info to everything.

if you don't know how to backup the site, or don't have time to backup the site, that is your problem, not the sellers. When I purchase sites, I don't assume that I am going to get zips of the site, unless it is stated when I purchase it. Frankly, i would rather do it myself anyway, that way I know that I have EVERYTHING and that the backup is recent.

Like I said, since this has such an easy fix, something seems suspicious to me about this deal. Otherwise, this would be a non-issue since it would have been resolved after the 2 minutes it takes to make a complete backup through cpanel.

Please keep us informed to the end results of this transaction. At this point I am reading the buyer to be at fault. But, that the seller may have missed something too.

Handing over a domain and hosting with all passwords, etc should finalize a sale. No one should have to send you a copy separately, you can make a back up yourself.

 

all anyone has to do is tell me what that want at point of sale..ive always used cpanel,but thats just me.I feel a paypal fraud charge,only an hour after an email asking for the site to be emailed is uncalled for,but its ok..i have all records of everything.I have emailed the database,and given cpanel info once again..if there is a problem,let me know.

 

I don't believe this is still going on. This should have been a private 2, maximum 3 email exchange, not 4 pages on a forum.

That is the problem with purchasing sites from inexperienced webmasters. he shouldn't be creating, and should certianly not be selling, database driven sites if he doesn't even know how to dump a db.

 

But you could also say that someone who doesn't even know how to dump a db shouldn't be buying database driven sites.

 

He knows how. I reckon he plans on taking that dump file he gets via email and restoring the db with it. This is a matter of service. When you order something from Amazon, do you expect it delivered to your door, or do you go to Amazons warehouse and pick it up yourself?
