Just wondering how in the world it's done... I mean high PR. http://www.jmandrake.com/ or textgram.com something to do with "search terms" links at the bottom?
seems that putting all their pages in different directories (or using a mod_rewrite) has given them greater internal links in Google. Strange that this means they have 393 links on Google but only 11 on hotbot (hotbot usually report more links) I suspect this trick wont last long
as far as I am aware it works on a scale of the power of 10 with a .85 multiplication factor (or a 0.15 dampening factor) better explanation here. http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/
form http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html Does it explain PR7 for textgram.com? P.S. If it seems like I don't have a clue does it mean that I can't ask?
No, of course not. You can ask, that's what this forum is here for. But before answering I wanted to know what you already know. The problem is, that Google explanation is a very general one, written up for everyone from people who have never heard of Google before to people like Shawn who know everything. It basically isn't entirely correct. They get that PR from links coming into their site. Their content has nothing to do with it at all (apart from outgoing links 'bleeing' PR away again). So even when they delete all content, the PR will be that high because they get hundreds of links in which all pass PR to them. It's a result of a mathematical equation with the incoming links being the most important variable. Forget about the other 4,999,999 variables they mention. IBLs determine PR. So, the answer to your question in short is: Their Incoming Links.
no, I think he was saying to me that I need to simplify. ok here goes, the google page rank algo assignes weight to a specific page depending on how many links it gets, which means to create a PR5 site you would need 10 PR4 links 100 PR3 links, 1000, PR2 links, 10000, pr1 links or 100000 pr0 pages, this PR is passed from page to page throughout the net with 85% of the power getting passed from page to page as a dampening factor so every page wont end up with the same PR, this prevents people creating quick throw away link pages to increase link popularity, the PR of a page is also divided evenly among the outbound links on a page. this makes it hard to trick google, (not impossible, just hard) that is what PR is, its a value assigned to a page by google, however the PR of a page dosnt ensure Search engine ranking positions(SERPS) the site linking to it must have PR and the anchor text (clickable text) in the links TO your page are counted as votes for your site, the more PR your votes have, the better. which means a site with 10 PR 4 links with the correct anchor text will beat a site with 20 PR4 links with unrelated anchor text, even though the second site will have higher PR. Ok thats enough for now.
They are the only factor of PR IBL=PR But themed IBLs are worth more than unthemed in bound links, even ones with higher PR.
If you could get high PR with beatiful text on your pages, you wouldn't see so many spammy crapsites out there with nothing to read/offer but links. Until that day, get more links if PR concerns you. A lot of people couldn't care less though. The are more interested in high rankings. That requires links too but more quantity than high-PR links. And more quality (correct anchor text) than larger volume shit links. The end result might well be high PR because you got so many links. But PR IMO isn't the goal. It's a side-effect.
