Best place to buy CS3?

Discussion in 'Photoshop' started by tomah, Dec 18, 2007.

    Hi

I figured some of you guys might know the best place to buy CS3 for Mac? At the very least, I need Photoshop and Illustrator.

I need the full retail version, as I'm not a student, and I make money from the software.

    Any advice?

Noob - By online, do you mean to download? I suppose that's an option too. I was thinking shipping initially.

    Eruct - No I don't. I own CS for Windows, that's all.

Farizal - I never thought of Amazon. Going to check it now.

    Any other ideas?

It appears you're not allowed to buy software on Amazon, unless you live in the U.S.

    So...back to square one.

    Hi tomah,

I didn't know you couldn't buy software off Amazon. That'd be right.

I use this site in Aust to look for good prices. Maybe it will be of help.

It's typical, isn't it? Sometimes I think life would be easier, and cheaper in the U.S. Coming from the UK, and currently living in Australia, it gets extremely frustrating every time you go to buy a product, to realise there's at least 30% markup compared to the states.

As for that site...$880 just for Photoshop on its own? That's robbery!!

Adobe products are expensive, they have the market cornered so there's really no way around it plus they make an awesome product but that doesn't help with your dilemma.
So, I might recommend a few things...

First would be to buy a version of CS2, not just Photoshop make sure it is the full suite ($400usd was the cheapest I found in a short search) and then upgrade to CS3 Design Standard (for another $400usd from Adobe themselves).
This will save you like $200-400 depending on the price you can get the used CS2.

Second option would be to try and contact one of the private sellers on Amazon in the 'used and new' shop from the product page. I know amazon won't ship software out of the states but maybe contact one of them, or try the co.uk version of amazon as their rules might be different.

Final option and cheapest, buy an educational version. These are exactly the same product as the commercial, albeit your not supposed to sell work produced with it... I am not condoning this option ...

apple.com? Are you serious? Probably more expensive than Adobe! ;)

fuzeooster - I know. It's still robbery though.

eruct - Thank you for your excellent response. I'm going to try them in the order you have noted them. I'll see how cheap I can get CS2 (does it work with CS?).

Your Amazon.co.uk idea is top! I totally never thought of checking it. I could even get it posted to my mum (in the UK) and get her to send it on, if they don't allow international shipping.

    Again, thanks! Rep added.

I was looking into this few months back.
    $2500aud is just too much.
There are several versions you can get.
Student version-can't sell your work commercially. (cheapest of all 3)$800approx(maybe less)
educational-price is between student and retail versions..still the cheapest option while your legally able to sell any work commercially.$800 or so
Retail- full price $2500aud full version

I found that info on adobe site itself and through online retailers with physical australian addresses.
student and educational require a student ID card though.

what state you in? There is a few places in Adelaide city.. if your in brisbane or gold coast I could also reccommend a few/...
