The B/S/T section as it stands appears to be dragging down the quality of the forums - there's a great thread about it here - my proposal is to create an additional, paid-for, B/S/T section; one that is structured more rigidly than the existing setup.

The idea is to leave the current free listing, B/S/T but to create an additional, structured one where people don't have their listings buried within minutes by the deluge of garbage.

    Yes please!

[1] Gets the cheap #$%# out of the way
[2] Quality premium content for sale
[3] Keeps low TR/post sellers away from clogging the forum
[4] Gives a bit of revenue to Shawn and the moderator team to keep their computers running and their goldfish fed
[5] Allow quality sellers to offer their product/service at a more predominant location

    :)

    interesting.

I am frustrated at the fact my threads are buried within seconds..although right now I can't afford to pay a listing fee.
I am avoiding sitepoint becuase of the high listing fee..$20 is too much.

maybe to kick start things list at $1usd..

I wouldn't mind eventually paying $5 to list..so long as i knew my products/services would be noticed and i would get a good ROI.

edit: I support the points in previious post.

I'm just reading the other thread now..

I'm against it simply because I can't afford it, and it would be a lost to me if whatever I try selling doesn't sell or if it's a contest, I don't get the results I'm looking for. This is why I'm not an active market place poster at SitePoint.

What the BST needs at the moment is more organized categories and set it up so replies don't bump up a thread. If that is set up, then there should be a big enforcement to not post the same thread to soon, such as wait 3 days before reposting the thread if you want to repost it.

this is like increasing the fuel price so that less cars can compete in the race. Sure there is a lot of crap, although if your product is good, you should not have any problems.

    I just had an idea..

instead of listing fees..why not a membership fee..annual fee?
The members who think $1 is a pretty good price in their part of the world..obviously paying $30 for example would stop them from entering.

So paying for access to post? that seems stupid, only the people will the money could post their offers.. competition would be lower and prices for services would be higher... I think it's fine how it is, although there is a lot of warez, copyright infringement and other crap.

Its a busy forum and if a buyer is looking for something specific he/she can find it using the categories already in place. As a buyer I don't have problems finding things I need.

well whatever..I've got too much of a bad headache to concentrate.

I reckon member's posting in BST need to have excellent english. I'm in too much of a grumpy mood to give a rats ass if that statement is not politically correct.

you both make a good point..like i said its just an idea..geez.

Really? You don't seem to practice perfect English in that section of the forum yourself.

This is a universal forum so not everyone can speak/write "perfect" English. I know I'm guilty of this myself.

    Keep this ON TOPIC!

To the people who are complaining about the cost, I ask you this - how would keeping the existing B/S/T forum exactly as it is but adding a NEW, paid for, well structured B/S/T area affect you at all?

    Let me lay it out.

Existing B/S/T stays exactly as it is - nothing changes.
NEW, paid-for, B/S/T area is ADDED to the forums.

The only reason I came here was because sitepoint raised their prices and got too greedy with the whole marketplace aspect of their site, if we have to start paying I know I'll post a lot less, especically since most of my mosts are in the BST section.

Yes please. At the moment you can't do serious business here because of the general culture of the B/S/T.

I think that a premium board for the sales of websites only would be a great improvement

    Thanks

I think that $10 would be a good figure, it is enough to make people think twice before posting a site in the section.

You would certainly filter better quality websites into that section, which would be great.

Idea #2: How about certain features like thread highlight for $1?

*Anyone else notice it's only the 'respectable' DP members posting here while everyone else is in the BST fairground? :p
