It has been a pretty good year. After a dissapointing couple of months things are now looking better. Going into 2008 with a positive mood.
before 2007 i wasnt even a DP member. i had 1 website. 2007 has been ace I only came into the directory market this year. its been great and im happy enough. I think my investment brought good results. Yeah. its boosted my SEO knowledge and understanding of many other things. I marketed zorg-links heavily and made $xx,xxx so you could say it went rather well. I messed up and got penalised in google. Then i de-indexed myself so missed the PR update. Lastly, I expect 2008 to be similar to the current months. You cant predict much in this fast changing environment. My plans are to continue growing. I think this time next year i will be a dominant force.
Well I started off at the beginning of 2007 with only 1 directory and little experience and now at the end of 2007 that number has increased to 6 directories and I have learnt a lot and made a lot of friends. A very fruitful year, the most important lesson that I have learnt that in order to be successful, you must be willing to invest. Will go into 2008 with hopes that it will be better than before.
2007 has been rather knowledgable. Thanks to members here at DP and UK WW we've learnt alot about directories and also learnt alot from the mistakes we've made along the way. I'd say overall it has been an excellent year and hope that 2008 with the things we have learnt will be more beneficial. It's true what they say. You learn a different thing everyday and sometimes, you need to stick your hands up and realise when wrong has been done and move on. The plan for 2008 is take our UK directory to the next level. The objective is to make it a high traffic site and start bringing in some real submissions but at the same time - give our submitters what they pay for - traffic and seo benefits.
Ive only been a directory owner since April i think so im still learning the ropes. So far im happy enough, with my first especially, but still plenty of room for improvement, things have gone as expected so far, realistic expectations. For what ive done so far, i feel its paid off. Yes i feel i did the right thing entering the world of directories. Mostly, while i plan for the future, i try not to assume that something will go exactly as expected. Nothing went wrong in 2007, nothing is wrong. For 2008, theres no way i would get too sure of myself and say its going to be a great year, thats silly, il just see how things go, looking forward to being busy, staying active on forums and maybe l get some good ideas for things. Hope everyone else does well.
2007 has been good. I am new to directories this year and have learned a ton especially from dp. I have learned many levels of promotion and what submitters want in directories they submit to Yes. I was one of the lucky ones and gained PR. Being a part timer I am not making a lot because I keep my review fees small I am better off than I was before I'm not sure. It is a lot of work and not really reaping true benefit yet Some have, some havent I took Bob Mutchs deal (only 50 regular links-not 100 featured) Lastly, I have another project in the pipe and may pass Quality Deep Link Directory of to another directory owner who can take it further and make it better.
Thanks you guys for sharing the year of 2007, it's been a great learning experience here. Well to sum up my 2007, maybe it's not so related to directory industry, but whatever. I have learned how to make some real money by working as a freelancer developer which is amazing because I never knew that there are so many opportunities out there on the web. 2008 is definitely going to be an exciting year for me, I will further sharpen my skills not only as a techie but as a real internet marketer, yes, to earn bigger money. DP is really a great place to live business, and I might continue saying so until I get banned - which is what I'm afraid of most because I have continually spotted banned accounts everywhere, indicating DP moderators are quite good at catching crimes, even not out of *criminals'* intention in the first place.
A couple of my directories gained PR, a couple lost. All have gained traffic and submissions are increasing again, so I'd say all in all it was a good year. Bigger hopes for 2008 by providing more than just directories and hoping that people begin to realize that there is more to a link than just PR
It was really cool for me, Learn so much stuff and this is my 1st year managing directories. Yes really very happy the way things rolled out. I think yes, my efforts paid off really well. Yes plans rolled out really well for my bidding directory but not really good with my general directories. Google coming in educating about paid links and stuff LOL
If there was any one thing that i have learnt this year it is this. A directory owner lives and works on a double edged sword, on one hand we must bring people to our sites, with our marketing just like any other web site to sell our products / promote our services. But then as a directory it is our role to send those visitors to our customers sites ( the true purpose of the directory ). Directing people to a site in essence is what a directory is there for, yes we need visitors just like every site but we must then go another level to deliver those people to the destination they were looking for, I see many have focused n the first part, getting people to their sites but little effort in the second part. Cracking the secret to part 2 i believe will be a major key and will be my focus, this will ensure my customers win and in that allow me to continue to build a valuable resource as it was intended to be.
I learnt a lot in 2007. I'm expecting to put them in practice in 2008. Thanks to all of you. Nice environment for learning and getting experience. Kind regard
It's been a very interesting year, full of turmoil, I learnt a lot from different trends I have been analysing. Interestingly yesterday I think Google nuked my PR for searchbuster.org, oh well Matt and Co I salute you with the bird.
2007 is the start year for my Tag Directory, TagDiri.com. I started a heavy promotion work and I expect results in 2008.
2007 has been great! lots of sites got PR, some are doing nice on the SERPS too!! i learnt many new things, made new friends on these forums, developed quality sites and directories........... In 2008 i will release my article script that am working on.
I became a directory owner in Jan-'07. So soon its going to be an anniversary for me too. During this short time- I made lots of mistakes, learnt many things- and still find myself owfully short of experience. I have so many more things to do/learn - it never ends- i.e. -- the learning process. Bottomline- after almost one year of me being a directory owner- I think its the best thing that happened to my online life. Going back via time-machine- I would still want to be a directory owner and going forward- I'll still wanna be a directory owner.
Could you let us know if you close your first directory-year with our without profit?... In case you had profit, it met your expectations?
I've been involved in the directory business for a long time now, more than a year. I keep a low profile, however I have learned lots during the past year; I think it has been a relatively good year for many directory owners. I am looking forward '08 and hopefully, it will be as good as '07 if not better. I think as owners, we must consider to offer our visitors, the true value of a web directory, and not only take the submitters/revenue aspect up on discussion. It is about improving them, each aspect matters. Meti
