WordPress or Normal Website Best for SEO

What's more SEO friendly? Does wordpress have an advantage over a conventional website (built in dreamweaver, etc.) by default or just because the h1, other tags are assigned to the titles by default ?

Would you say that and the reason that blogs are known to Google to be updated more often than websites therefore gain higher initial ranking ?

I can't decide what to choose to build my new website so it's as search engine friendly as possible beacuse I have over 800,000 competitors - yes I know what I'm getting myself into , just need to decide on this one thing.

I think it really depends on what kind of site you are running. Wordpress can be very SEO friendly with a few tweaks, but so can a conventional website. I would say that if you are not really familiar with CSS, HTML, Javascript and some sort of server side scripting language (PHP, JSP, ASP, ColdFusion), then I would say that Wordpress would be your best bet.

One reason that blogs tend to be good for SEO is because there is always new content (if it is updated daily) and there is a lot of content (after a while). You may not hit a bunch short-tale keywords without some specific optimization, but blogs are really good at ranking well for long-tale keywords.

wordpress is a very good blog platform, and with the modules available it borders a full fledged CMS.

wordpress and drupal are the best CMSs out there. Joomla comes close, but it is currently very bulky with inefficient coding that makes execution slow.

I've used both Wordpress and sites just using HTML, CSS and found that the Wordpress sites seemed to do better even though I put the same amount of time and effort into both types of sites.

A static website is best .. and wordpress has to have a few plugins to have the title and keywords to establish non dynamic feel. And you have to make sure your permalinks are set correctly and not to a post "number" per-say

Out of the box Wordpress SEO is plain horrible, but with about 45mins manually hacking the code and installing some plugins you can have a platform that can compete with anything.

I think it depends more on what kind of website you have in mind.

If it is not a blogging type website, but more of one that is static, then I would not use wordpress, but optimize your seo in other ways.

It really depends what you're site is about. Wordpress is a blogging software, and sometimes a site's theme doesn't lend itself to blogging. If you want a blog, Wordpress is probably the best.

static html worked the best for me so far. wordpress with seo plugins and permalinks set to category/post name can work too!
